I've noticed mine take a minute to boot up a time or two but it's not consistent or frequent.

Good question Kansas, I don't know. I'll have to look next time I start up and see if the brake indicator is illuminated on the instrument cluster. If it is I guess it automatically disengages when you put it in reverse or drive.
