I've done the obligatory search, but I'm probably using the wrong search terms. Has anyone had any luck with any particular brands that manufacture covers for our vehicle? I'm looking at Seal Skin right now, but if people have had good experiences with other brands, I can be easily swayed.

Backstory: Sunday I spent three hours detailing my car, Monday morning I woke up and hopped in it and my neighbors tree is the bane of my existence and had dusted the vehicle with sap. This is a recurring theme here in Texas in that this tree will drop sap, pollen, etc. at various times of the year. Unfortunately, my garage is not a viable place to put a vehicle... otherwise it'd be in there. So between trees being the worst, the Texas sun and our inevitable chance of hail, I figured getting a quality car cover would be a good choice.

The cover will most likely work but, depending on how often you drive the truck and need it, the hassle of removing it and reinstalling it frequently may be a bigger issue. Add to that, when the sap drips from the tree the cover will catch it and then make a mess when removing it and folding it unless you clean it right away but that kind of makes the point of the cover moot. Then you would need to store it somewhere.... It just seems like a huge hassle.

I've found outdoor covers do more damage than help. They may protect against the elements, but if it's windy and they move and shift it creates rub marks at the high spots. It's more of a long term issue, and probably more severe if you haven't done anything to protect your paintlike PPF or Ceramic coating.

I really only use covers for indoor storage (for my Mustangs) now.

Yup... the more I read about car covers the less it seems like a good idea (other than maybe a hail cover for an "oh shit" scenario)

I live out in a rural area and have to drive on a dirt road 2.3 miles from the end of the asphalt to my ranch gate, so my car is always dusty or muddy. We have a garage but my wife has it full of stuff so our vehicles sit outdoors. I've used Seal Skin covers for several years now to help protect against hail damage which is the biggest threat where I live. I'm not obsessed with the car's paint job considering where I live and that it's not a Ferrari, so it's use a cover or get that unappealing golf ball look. The Seal Skin cover fits the Explorer like a glove and only takes me a few minutes to put on, taking it off and folding/rolling it up is a bit more time consuming but it works for me. Good luck.
