That's disappointing, but not entirely unheard of. I've had similar experiences with other brand vehicles. I hate to say it, but I echo my statement in post #13.

It's been running fine since we got it back, doesn't have any leaks, and all in all has been good to go (until I noticed that weird buzzing sound at idle). You're right, though... they've had a lot of hands on it, and after seeing the lack of due-diligence with fully completing the repair and instead them just slapping things back together, I wonder what else they left undone. At this point, if they screw it up to the point something else fails because they didn't do their job, I'm sure a lawyer would have a field day with them...

Heard back from the dealer that they're looking for the bolts, nuts, and clips they left (or broke) off when they swapped the motors, and we should have it back tomorrow.

However... while they had it, they decided to do the 24S55 recall procedure to check the valves, even though it no longer had a motor built in 21 or 22. Apparently, they track the recall need by vehicle VIN, not an engine S/N, and the service guys didn't note it wouldn't be applicable anymore when they changed engines. That's the rev-it-for-a-long-time procedure where they sit there with it in park/neutral and run it between 4000-4500 rpms for 30-40 minutes at a time. They've now done that twice today since there were so few miles on the engine. SMH.

I asked why they were doing that when it just had a completely new motor put in it (less than 500 miles ago), and his answer was they needed to verify it was good and document they did the procedure. I fired off another email to the service manager asking why they did that when it no longer had a motor under the recall in it. I don't understand their reasoning at all...

Unfortunately sounds like they were just checking off a box. I imagine performing the recall allows them to get paid from Ford? If that’s the case, they “performed the recall test” as an excuse to put some $$$ in their pocket regardless of the circumstances didn’t justify it.

I’d be livid.

Yeah.... Why couldn't they have done this test on the old motor that was trashed? The recall was valid in May when they had the last, but they didn't do it then.
