Then there was this fiasco. lol
I consider myself a decent wrench…I can usually diagnose things pretty accurately. My car started making a clanking kind of noise at low speeds on sharp impacts…well this ain’t my first rodeo with the old ST and I know for sure that’s a strut bearing. They eat them like candy so I ordered two to have a spare for next time.
Blew apart the front end and had the new one installed in an hour or so…problem solved. Then I drove it again…exact same noise…fuq. Drive it up on ramps and tap on stuff with a rubber mallet and hear a clank when I whack the sway bar….cool…it’s a bad end link so I order new ones. Blew apart the front end and slapped them in…problem solved. Then I drove it again…exact same noise…FUQ! Blew the front end apart and dammit…one of the end link nuts came loose. OK that’s my bad…tighten it up…problem solved. Then I drove it again…exact same noise…FUQ ME AND EVERYONE ELSE TOO!!! Blew the front end apart again, removed end links, whack everything under there with a rubber mallet and when I hit the disconnected swaybar it made the noise…it was a dry urethane bushing the whole time. I’ve heard them creak and groan and make all kinds of noises but I’ve never in my life heard one make a metallic clank. Took everything apart and re-greased the bar, the bushing and even the caps that hold the bushings….and it’s FINALLY fixed and quiet as can be. I was thisclose to burning it to the ground.
All that took place over 4-5 weeks of weekends. I was beyond done with this damn car but all is well now and I love it again. lol

I had a similar dog and pony show trying to find a clunk. Ended up being a worn Steeda bushing. Probably went dry for a while and wore down a but. Must have put my car on the lift four or five times before I figured it out. Was happy when I replaced the bushing and it went away.

I just had to re grease my front sway bar bushing. It would make a squeak over bumps when the temp dropped below 50.

I’ve had them squeak before…this was a metallic clank. The bushings are hard as a rock…to the point I can’t even open them to pull them off the bar. I had to slide them off around the end. I’m trying to order a new pair right now.

More audio stuff today. My amps use unregulated power supplies so their output goes up with voltage…which means it also goes down. Our BMS has voltage all over the place from 11.6 all the way to 15.5ish but mostly around 12.6 when driving on mine. There’s an audible difference when the voltage goes to 14.4 or higher so I added a Harrison Labs FluxCap voltage stabilizer and now it’ll maintain 14.7 no matter if the car is on or off.

Thanks! New to this forum, but I'm a member on a few others... Bronco 6G, Ranger 6G and Porsche 718. I've got got a '21 Bronco, '24 Ranger Raptor, and '18 Porsche Cayman 718 that are all causing me to enjoy life and spend a lot of time and money doing mods to them all.
Wife and I are picking up her new Explorer ST this week and looking forward to starting on the mods.
She's upgrading from a 2016 Explorer Sport and is really excited about the new one... and all the possibilities. I've spent a lot of time stalking the threads here and learning about everyone's experiences regarding their mods. I've already got a long list going
