My ‘21 has about 22,500 miles. I don’t want to admit that I baby the engine but, it’s not tuned, no launches, etc. I’m an old fart and drive it like one.

I see absolutely no reason why they should stress the engine trying to break it. If it eventually explodes, I would expect it to be covered by the extended warranty (isn’t it 150,000 miles on the recalled engines?), the Ford ESP or both. I don’t feel like the test is beneficial with respect to the life of the engine. If they blow up the engine, I get a new one. If they don’t, my engine has been subjected to additional and unnecessary stress.

When I go in for the 25,000 oil change and rotation, can I insist they NOT perform the recall test?

Yes, you can have them not do the recall. All they do is rev the crap out of the engine and if it fails there they replace it. The intake valve crack problem has not effected an Explorer at all, it’s all been the Bronco, but since they share the same engine platform they got recalled.

They can’t rev it past the safeties already built in…it’s gonna be just fine.

If it were mine, I wouldn't have those monkeys touch it unless the engine grenades from the valves with normal driving. I'm 100% with you on not having them intentionally abuse your engine. A recall isn't mandatory and no one can make you do it. I STRONGLY suggest you tell them to not do the test and to even get it in writing otherwise those f@cks will do it anyway.

It’s like a free license to beat your car. I’m not having them do it to mine. I’ve had quite a few fun long drives that I beat on the ST pretty hard. If it goes, it goes.
