Anyone got any video clips of cruising with the Gibson exhaust installed? Aswell as interior sound clips if possible.

I want some noise from the exhaust but nothing too loud as I’m gonna daily it.

I have it, and I like it. I will do my best to get a sound clip from the phone. I mine daily, and although I wanted the thermal option, I found it to be too loud. One thing that I find strange is that at wide open throttle (WOT), it sounds like a jet engine or a leaf blower. I guess that's just the sound of the V6 turbo. The startup is nice, and the idle is cool.

As for cabin noise at highway speeds, it's slightly louder than factory—just a bit. When going up a steep hill, you do get more noise, but I enjoy it. The only downside is that my wife dislikes the modifications I've made to my Explorer. Another issue is that you need to cut your exhaust pipes at the right spot to get them to line up correctly. If you're off by just a bit, it can mess up the angle at the back. It's better to cut less than more.

I think it sounds great! Like right at startup, it's loud but then quiets down fairly quickly.

I saw on Gibson's website that you cut like 1.5in from the curve etc, is that pretty accurate on how to do it?

Yes, you need to cut right where the curve straightens out. I measured three times to ensure accuracy, but I still ended up butchering the cut at an angle with the sawzall. Eventually, I got everything matched up; I just needed about half an inch more on one side. The best part, at least in my opinion, is that for the upcoming cross-country drive, I can put the factory mufflers back on with the band clamps. I have a feeling that when towing a trailer, the sound will reverberate back at the Explorer, making it quite enjoyable for a long drive.

Yea I like the fact that I can reinstall factory mufflers if needed.

Were you gonna use a band style exhaust clamp to attach the factory muffler if needed or how did you plan on going about that?

I got the exhaust installed and it didn’t take very long at all. Was a bit hesitant about making the cuts but I believe I did it in the right spot.

I did notice that slipping these mufflers over the factory exhaust tubing was quite difficult like it didn’t fit. Eventually I got them both on but I feel like the driver side tips stick out slightly more the the passenger side tips. I tried using a rubber mallet to tap the muffler on further but not sure if it was enough.

Did anyone else have that issue?

I had a muffler shop weld mine on.
Like you, I didn't want a loud obnoxious exhaust. Gibson did not disappoint. It provides the "I'm not stock" sound and look outside, but barely any sound inside. Perfect.
I don't plan on ever changing it out, so I went with welding it on.

Anyone willing to share pics of their Gibson exhaust attached to the rear most exhaust hanger. I just wanna make sure I got mine lined up properly and make sure it isn’t rubbing on the metal ring

Just noticed a couple things;

I do have some low end drone type noise inside the cab driving between 1.5 -2.0k rpm, not sure what could be causing it. Some research said it might be the fake engine noise causing drone style noise As stated here

second, I was adjusting one of the mufflers and noticed quite a bit of water inside here
not sure if that could also be a cause

anyway, I reached out to Gibson and awaite their response but was wondering if anyone had any insight

When I had the Gibson, I had a drone at that RPM. It was especially notable at highway speed giving light throttle to maintain speed. I checked everywhere for any signs of rubbing or leak and could not find any. It was annoying enough to scrap the whole axleback.

FENG isn't really noticeable with light throttle. In any case, I had disable it on my 2020 ST, so I knew it wasn't the reason.

I appreciate being able to rule that out

While I do not believe I have any pics I did have an issue of the right hanger vibrating against the mount (metal ring). I would hear it going over certain bumps in the road. I originally thought it was a rear shock. I had to cut a little more off from the exhaust pipe to allow the Gibson to slip in a bit further. Pushing it in further allowed more room between the hanger and the mount and the noise went away.

... yes, the muffler hangers (one on each side). The bent metal rod can rub against the round metal part. You have to rule that out.
