Need some advice… looking to add the Vibrant Ultra Quiets to my exhaust but would like to start with new pipes between the cat's and the cat-back exhaust. A muffler shop replaced the factory flex pipes due to rattling, but they were really cheap quality and disintegrated so badly in two years you could clearly see the spring inside. They cut them out and replaced them again (another hack job) so want to start fresh.

That being said, does anyone know If there is an aftermarket replacement pipe with good quality flex pipes that I could cut a section out of and add the Vibrant Ultra Quiets too? If I have to use factory pipes, I can do that but, couldn't find the part number to purchase them. Looking to mimic the setup that Unbroken showed in his thread... I am running the Fenfab Catted Down Pipes and the Borla S-Type Exhaust. Any guidance is greatly appreciated!!!

Is it the same size as the factory piece?

Also, based on using the above mid pipes, would I want to order 2.5” Ultra Quiets or do I go one size bigger to get them to slip over these pipes?

Okay, just having a helluva day today with upgrades… got my Lethal Performance mid-pipes and my Vibrant Ultra Quiets and was getting things ready to cut the pipes to add the VUQ’s and don’t see a way to make it work??? The parts I ordered (first pic) appeared to have room to add the resonators, the second pic is what I received… any thoughts on how I can cut the resonators in to these? If not, will I get the same quieting effect putting the Vibrants between the Borla resonator and the mufflers?

-WickedST-,

Everybody has an opinion so I'll offer my 2 cents...

As you pointed out, I don't see how the resonator will fit in the straight space on the RHS pipe. However, on my Mustang, the factory resonators are located just in front of the rear axle in the over-the-axle pipes. For comparison, I have seen resonators installed in the OTA pipes and after the X- or H-pipe in custom exhausts on Mustangs fitted with long tube headers. Based on these two cases, it looks like the location of the resonators is not critical with regard to effectiveness. Having said that, installing the resonators as close to the engine (call it the noise generator) as possible/practical makes sense so the resonators can squelch the higher frequencies and prevent resonance in the long run of OTA piping.

HTH.

To fit the UQ’s you’ll have to cut the end of the down pipe off as well as the front of the mid pipe. See below for reference. The UQ’s are all the way up to the bend on the DP. You always want a resonator as close to the engine as possible.

UNBROKEN,

Thanks for the info and the photo. Comparing the LP pipes in Wicked's photo and the flex pipes in your ST's setup, the LP pipes have the flex joints located closer to the engine. Looks like the LP pipes will need some major surgery to fit the resonators. Maybe it's just my old eyeballs.
