I've read some post about people who either, added resonators, eliminated the stock resonator or replaced the stock resonator with aftermarkets to tame down their 3" Thermal exhaust. Seems like Vibrant is the way to go. I like the way my 3" Thermal sounds, for the most part, but it "is" a bit loud. Especially on cold start ups. So I would like to do something to tone it down just a bit and maybe lose some of the raspiness. I'd prefer not to spend a ton of cash to get it done but, it is what it is. What do y'all think is the best way to achieve this? For instance, add a couple bottle-style resonators between the DP's and stock resonator, replace the stock resonator with them, add them after the stock resonator, etc. I know some have even replaced the mufflers but I don't want to go that far unless it's ultimately necessary. I just want to tone it down a little bit so it's not so loud. Thanks!

@UNBROKEN did that to his. He did them after the downpipes before the resonator I believe.

Yep! He did the Ultra Quiet between the DP’s and resonator. @enphor just did the same thing only with the bottle style. That’s what I’m leaning towards.

I did the bottle style. If I were to do it again I would consider the Ultra Quiet.

Really! I was leaning towards the bottle style and was just trying to figure out what size to get. Maybe I will look into the Ultra Quiets. I know that's what @UNBROKEN did on his. Decisions, decisions! Drives me crazy!

So, after reading through a lot of posts, I think I am going to just do the same Ultra Quiet's and Magnaflow that @UNBROKEN used. I'll start with just the Ultra Quiet's between the DP'd and resonator to see how that sounds. If it's good, I'll leave it at that. If not, I'll add the Magnaflow. But I think adding just the Ultra Quiet's will give me what I want.

Ultra Quiets will be the most effective at reducing the volume and taking out some of the harsh frequencies. However, it looks like you may need to cut some of the DP and some of the midpipe to make it fit.

In another thread, I saw someone install the non-ultra quiet version of the resonators via welding into the mid pipe. I feel like I might even be able to DIY that on jackstands, using an exhaust pipe cutter and butt joint clamps instead of taking it to a welder.

I am considering one of those options as well. I have the Whoosh downpipes, which have heat shielding on them, so that would have to be removed.

Yeah, I did a lot of reading about different options and I think this is the best one. I messaged @UNBROKEN and he said he cut the DP's a bit to fit them in. He also expanded one end to make a slip joint rather than welding it so it can be easily removed. They are 13 3/4" long from inlet to outlet. I think I'm just going to cut off enough to use butt connectors. If they won't work on the downstream side due to the bend, I'll weld it in there.

I would love to be able to do the install myself. I think I'd just have to peel back the heat shield, mark where to cut on both the DP and the midpipe, and use butt joints.

Part of me would prefer to have a shop do it, but I feel the cost will be pretty high, maybe 600+.

Just a follow up. The bottle style were a tight slip on fit. I only had to cut the midpipes. One fit to the DP on one side and the other fit from the midpipe to the Thermal resonator. I would guess that you would need to cut some of the DP to fit the ultra quiet resonators.

Also, no problem using a butt clamp. The thermal uses them and they hold up great. They are higher quality clamps with an inner sleeve.
