2023 Ford Explorer ST - 16K miles

I purchased this ST used four months ago and the transmission slippage has occurred randomly every seven days or so.

The Ford dealership I have been going to with my last two Explorers says I need to leave the car for two months (backlog) and if it doesn't make the noise when they test drive it they can't help me (despite clear evidence in the videos).

Can anyone help diagnose this issue and recommend a remedy?

Thank you,
David

You already know this and sad as it is to say, but you need a different dealer. We know that isn't always possible, as the next closest may be 100 miles away, but what you've written sounds like a major blow off.

It has only chimed once out of the fifteen times or so that this has occurred and unfortunately I did not catch what the message was.

The frequency has increased once Friday 12/19 and once yesterday 12/20 - and for a longer duration now - out of gear.

I have an appointment with another Ford dealer in the area tomorrow - hopefully they can figure it out. I am a little worried the stage 2 tune that was on the vehicle will void the warranty. I put the stock tune back on but I think Ford can still see that an aftermarket tune had been installed.

Yes, they should still be a able to see that the tune was installed but it really depends on the service advisor. You may get lucky and he may just not mention it.

Firstly, have you checked the fluid level? Also, if you see the fluid, does it have any metal shavings in it? Is it happening in a specific gear or randomly in others?
Give us this info before we can further speculate. Hope your 2nd Ford dealer helps.

Had this same incident happen to me around 7 weeks ago traveling 60ish MPH. Red transmission error message flashed on the screen then disappeared maybe a second later. I hopped on the pedal to accelerate, car downshifted then immediate grinding noise for 3-4 seconds and the car drove like normal after. I did a quick vehicle checkup in my garage afterwards and drove pretty conservatively (no hard launches, quick acceleration, and anything above 90 MPH) for a week and no codes popped up. Vehicle hasn't done it since and drives like nothing ever happened.

Not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling

The 10R's get confused now and then, but haven't ever seen them get that confused...
The 10R's aren't the only things on this platform that get confused. (including the driver after these quirks!)
The sync system has been a real winner the last 6 months. It couldn't even get a factory reset right!

The best way to confuse a 10R is to start by giving it full send-type throttle, maybe for a pass or whatever, then let off (say you think you saw incoming traffic), and then get back in it when you figure out there is no traffic. The tease blip, and then resume go, will freak it out.

Right?
I've had it totally freeze a couple times when driving on the highway in 10th gear. I stomped on the accelerator and it never downshifted. I thought I had lost all power before I realized it was trying to accelerate in 10th gear. To boot, it was also in sport mode.
A couple days ago, I tried a quick punch in 1st. It burned all 4 tires but when it grabbed 2nd, it suddenly slipped and red lined for second, then shifted into 3rd. They should have put 10R80s in these things.
