Need help... Went to make the changes to disable the fake engine noise with the instructions (and after backing up the original file of course)... and after doing the ACM, I noticed a couple of things. One, a tiny crackle of the speakers as it probably rebooted the module which I can understand and also my carplay dropped. I shrugged it off and went to the next step after cycling, etc. and was getting the error "Gain security access failed - security key is wrong". So after a couple key cycles, I figured oh well I'll revert. So I went to revert the one change I made and looking at the string across 727-01-01, that first line had changed considerably... more than the 1 character I changed. Odd... so I was like oh well, I'll just load the saved config back, which I did, and it didn't have a problem doing so, and I heard the reboot/very slight crackle in the speakers and cycled, etc.

Now, when I go into the ACM module, all of the characters are exactly right, but carplay simply does not work anymore at all. I have done the "forget" on my phone, on the car stereo, and everything and it does not work and will not connect. Bluetooth does. So for kicks I drove it around the block and sure enough, the terrible sound of the fake engine is gone thank God, but it shouldn't be, as I reverted to the saved factory file. Carplay still does not work.

I have also verified that the DSP never changed and is as the factory settings were.

Can someone please, please help me out here before I have to tuck my tail into a dealership about this?

I've also tried to reboot the ACM module and key cycle. Also have tried with both keys/profiles... both iPhones deleted the car in the phone, deleted the phone in the car, then tried to re-add them... same thing. They will connect via bluetooth but Carplay attempts then errors out on the car. Also, fake engine noise is still gone... all values are back to stock. Really at a loss here... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Update - Oooookay, so I just went out to move the car after it's been sitting for 40min or so... and carplay connected (I wasn't even intening on "re-testing" the issue)... so I drove it around the block and the God-awful fake engine sound is back too. So I guess that's great news to me. But it begs the question... what IS the proper procedure / wait time here for these changes? This would be helpful to know... of course I'm feeling a huge relief but at the same time, the "tweak/customize-everything-I-can" voice in my head wants me to go right back out and try it again... (not today). But before I do, I want to ensure I know what the proper procedure and wait time is for these changes? I also think for good measure (and yes I know unnecessary and overkill) I will save all of the module configs of the car before doing anything again.

Thanks in advance!

Still work in progress! Apologies for the delay, with these crazy amounts of wildfires we’re having over the past few weeks has been insane and keeping us busier than normal!

With the 10-speakers and 14-speakers in these explorers is making it complicated, once I can get this figured out, I’ll update the thread. In the meantime, I’ve written “In Progress” on the FORScan spreadsheet for this reason.

For the changes, any FORScan changes should take effect as soon as you cycle on/off. You can force a module reboot (won’t erase anything, just reboot your module) by going into FORScan, connect it to your Explorer then choose the Wrench icon on the left. Find the module and follow the prompts. Should take less than a few seconds to reboot.

No worries on the delay and so sorry to see on the news and hear all that is still going on!

Yes, this is a fully optioned '25 Platinum with the 3.0L so I'm sure that adds a few layers to it.

Thank you for confirming the procedure. I too expected it to be instant after a power cycle and door open, etc. but surely was not, even when I forced the module to reboot as you describe above. It wasn't until I let the car sit for a while for it to revert correctly. Wonder if that has anything to do with the entire string was jumbled when I went back to validate/verify the change before reverting it. I definitely made something unhappy by flipping that one character. Just glad it's back at least working again.

Kind of reminds me of when I changed my OEM headunit in my Grand Cherokee to an OEM carplay model... the car had to sit for a few hours for the new head unit to "learn" the modules and options in the car to be setup correctly. Standard canbus thing... wonder if that's what was triggered and it just needed to re-initialize fully to all modules or something.

Boy was it ever nice though without that fake engine sound. I'm not sure who's bright idea that was or WHY on a car with an already smooth sounding engine... but the car sounded so nice for a short drive without it. Can't wait to get this sorted and try again.

Not sure if it matters or not, but our Explorer is a "Job 1" model, so early 2025 model. According to the salesman they pulled the electronic telescopic memory steering wheel column and rear window shades from Job 2. Sounds like a good thing that we got a Job 1.
