    2020 Explorer ST

I replaced the battery and it didn’t fix any of the communication errors. I actually got to the root cause. The ground on my AWD module is failing intermittently. I verified it with a multimeter and looking at the oscilloscope on forscan. I have a whole thread about it in case anyone else sees...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

SOLVED: AWD module under the seat had a poor ground with ~50Ohm resistance to the body and i was reading 2.3 volts on the ground of the FADA connector. I wiggled the connector going to the module under the seat and the grounds completely cleaned up to 0ohms and no more voltage on the ground pin...

    6 Faults and AWD Module

BTW i fully verified this was my issue. I was detecting 50Ohms between the AWD module case and ground. I was reading 2.3 volts from the ground wire at the FADA connector to the engine block. I wiggled the connector under the driver seat going to the AWD module and all of the grounds cleared up...

    Passenger front diff leak

awesome thanks for all that! and yes the axle popping has been so annoying so a good chance to kill 2 birds with one stone. thanks again. Might not tackle it right away

    AWD Module Calibration

Mongoose cable can talk to more modules than any other cheap OBD adapter. It can talk to ABS and all the extra modules others cannot because it has both Hi and Lo can bus support. FDRS is literally the dealership software Ford uses. There is nothing in FDRS you cannot do that a dealership can...

    AWD Module Calibration

I have heard other people in other threads post of similar issues and the problem was that the gear ratio in the transfer case or differentials in the front and rear did not line up causing the gears to wear rapidly. What was the issue?

    Passenger front diff leak

I appreciate you coming back to update this thread. I’m confident i can get the axle out. Is the seal easy to replace once the axle is out and was the part number CN1Z-7H424-B correct? Thanks

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

You guys wont believe this but wiggling the connector under my seat to the awd module fixed everything and i caught it live in a forscan recording. All the disabled features are back online and forscan is not showing any more codes. I might just drive it to ford and show them what i found and...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Notice AWD module Voltage Low DTC after the engine was already running for some time. I’m hoping this is just an AWD module ground issue. Going to attempt to check the ground right now. Gotta figure out how to pull the carpet up

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Found something very interesting. My AWD module voltage is very low compared to the rest of my module voltages.

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Thanks for sharing. man i can’t imagine a dealership taking all of those panels and seat off just to do that tiny job. I have two babies and a week long trip coming up but when I get back I’m going to test this.

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Thanks for the feedback. Yea i agree. I haven’t found a smoking gun that matches the same codes as me that keep coming up. They seem related but not identical. Yes, when I did the FADA upgrade i used FDRS to update the AWD module and told it that the connector was not present, it drove fine...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Wow this was useful: https://www.foexplorer.com/ford_explorer_diagnosis_and_testing_dtc_chart_and_pinpoint_tests-822.html. things are pointing towards awd module grounding issues. Also found some other threads that shared the same codes as me but it ended up being a bad Tcase. I'm hoping that...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

These are the new codes. I’m going to check my FADA connector since I performed the TSB to upgrade the FADA to a solid intermediate shaft. I’m wondering if the old dangling connector is starting to short out or get corroded. Will probably cut and terminate it properly and see if symptoms appear...

    2020 Explorer ST

Appreciate it. And yes actually it was 6 years. Bms reset was done with forscan. I have a 2019 build and I’m starting to think i need to perform that TSB to add a dedicated ground to the AWD module. All my error codes are posted in my own thread. Sorry for hijacking this old one.

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Update: I put a fresh battery in it and reset the BCM. Went a whopping 3 days without issues until I got these again. I will scan later with forscan, i’m expecting it to be the same error codes as before.

Welp, new battery did not solve my issues. At least i ruled it out.

E85 and just the right angle…

Are those the ebay 4” tips i saw you mention a while back? How well do they clean up after getting dirty? I noticed the cheap tip on my ram didn’t stay nice long. Those look great though.

I picked up the walmart platinum AGM today, 170$ and 4 year warranty. That battery change is a pain lol
