Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service! I'm not surprised they couldn't help you at the dealership. You have to call the FordPass app people. I had the same issue when I got mine and they got it worked out. The number is 1-800-336-0486 and just say "Customer Service".

This is what I thought. It work much like the older style 4WD's only the transfer case (or PTU) does not. It uses a wet clutch system to adjust how much torque goes to the front like an AWD does with a CVT or coupling. Torque is definately not sent to each wheel as the display indicates though...

The only differences between the early Explorer AWD and 4WD was the deletion of the transfer case actuator and it had no low range.

I'm just confused about one thing. If it's a full time transfer case, what is the actuator for? I though it connected and disconnected the transfer case from the transmission.

The part about Automatic 4WD being kind of the same as our Explorer ST's. The PTU is nothing like a transfer case in an old gen 2 Explorer.
