Just about any OBD Dongle works for any car including the Explorer. Only reason to get this Dongle is to use it with FORScan or other more intensive apps on different cars.

Agreed, this is the biggest issue with the full screens. When the screens get too hot, the screens will be glitchy and can fail. Buttons will always win. At least this time around the UI is Google's and not Ford's. Ford has probably the worst UI in automaker including the Sync 4.

If you ask me, i would never cheap on items that are inexpensive to begin with. Saving $10 on an item that can be critical if it fails isnt it worth it. But those are my 2 cents Just get the UPR plug, soo much easier and faster for oil changes

As @21BlackST stated. But on the Explorer, they're "drop in" oil filters, probably the reason why you're confused but were great on any other car, made things easier removing the filter.

A couple of things, the new Explorer does not have Sync 4, it uses a Google infotainment. Not sure if they would still require a sub base system but might for Ford services. The Sync 4 nav will work for life BUT RTT and CB routing will not work which is almost standard for different automakers...
