Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

If a customer refuses to have a recall performed, does that exempt Ford from any liability with the area in question, or possibly even void the entire warranty outright?

    Rear end damage

What is involved in assembling a class action suit?

    Rear end damage

Absolutely! But I've found the 50 mph downshift just as satisfying. Also, I noticed the trans won't always go down to the lowest gear possible when putting the hammer down. For ex: I cruise up to ~40 mph and floor it. The trans will drop down to 3rd, when 2nd is within easy reach. Shifting in...

    Turbo not kicking in?

I had a new '11 Stang GT that was low on power, turned out to be a loose sensor on one of the overhead cam banks. Who's to know why ST's are doing it though.

    Rear end damage

    I can't believe mine is a '22 and they didn't do that.

    Rear end damage

I often go full throttle at ~50 mph, because that's one of the best downshifts the ST has for putting you back in your seat. I do it with some regularity. And power braking on occasion when traffic permits.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

I also have 1k on mine. I won't see the dealer unless I bring it in for the on again/off again rattle I hear. The parts you refer to are for police units, retail purchaes like ours are only seeing a pcm flash for the e-brake.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Yup. That is what I posted on the "Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures" thread (post #136) https://www.explorerst.org/threads/safety-recall-22s27-rear-axle-bolt-fractures.3717/page-7#post-47899 And if it did change, what would it change to? 0.2%? 0.4%?

    Been there, doing that!

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

235 reported incidents out of 250,000 total vehicles effected = .094% Put another way, 99.906% of effected vehicles have not reported any rear axle bolt failures. That matches my Poll results almost perfectly (98.9%).

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

1-87 Knowing how forums naturally attract those who are experiencing problems with their products, that statistic is pretty amazing.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Ford sold 488,824 Explorers since 2020. About 20% of my local inventory are ST's, which extrapolates to a total 3 year run of 97,764 ST's. 1 reported break on an ST dedicated forum with almost 100k ST's on the road is a more than relevant indicator. It seems indicative Ford issued the recall...

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

So critical use First Responder vehicles still have to wait 5 more months for the fix, and in the mean time don't even get the e-brake software update. I wonder if LEO's have been notified not to stand in front of/behind their patrol units after they've put in in Park and exited.

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

All of the vehicles built with the 1 rear bolt are by design. Or were they? Only a Ford insider could tell us if it was truly a mistake or not. So confusing. I waited and got a 22 so things like this would've already been ironed out. Who would've guessed ...

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

Tune, don’t tune, I think ford would fix your car either way if it were to actually break. it is happening on stock STs That'd be my guess too, they'd just fix it it that were the only issue. And so far, the poll has it at 1-86. My guess it's extremely rare on stock ST's.

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

Not much of a priority if LEO's have to wait until Q3. Drive it like a rental?

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

They still recalled all 3 model year retail versions and will perform e-brake software updates, and hardware updates on 20/21 police interceptors. Well, certain one's but still within all 3 model years.

    Sport Mode rattle

My only rattle seems to be that pesky on again/off again flex-pipe-at-idle-noise that was there from day one.
