    Consumer Report on Explorers

Your story is a tough one to read. I had a blown engine on a new Ford sedan over a decade ago (camshaft chain skipped on the interference engine). They gave me a new loaner truck to drive and after one month I had my car back no issues. Hope you finally get your vehicle back this week.

    Consumer Report on Explorers

#1 Everybody is up in arms over Ford's lame recall due to their changing the rear subframe bolts from 2 to 1. #2 Other than that everyone pretty much loves their ST's. Considering the Price/Performance/Options quotient, nothing else even comes close.

It's a one bolt and it was parked, that's bad enough.

    Rear end damage

They're either "assuming" that the police units will have a greater chance of breaking due to their service parameters or ... They're fixing theirs and not ours because they know police agencies will sue or ... It's a combination of both. But yes, we are definitely getting the short end of the...

    Rear end damage

That seems to be info that's privy to Ford and to them alone. Unless they come out with another public statement like the one reported in the link that breaks everything down, we will never know.

hahaha I told a guy last week about the rear one bolt thing and he got underneath to look at it. I was nervous for him and eventually told him to get out!

That is the number of 20-22 Explorers recalled as per this article: https://www.autoblog.com/2022/04/29/ford-explorer-recall-axle-bolt-failure/

At some point the NHTSA should figure that out for themselves regardless of what Ford says.

"What Have You Done To Your ST Today" I checked underneath the vehicle to see if the single rear axle bolt was intact and everything was still in one piece. ALL GOOD!(y)

    Rear end damage

The roll away in Park after the bolt breaks is what they're addressing. It's been reported on this forum that the fix for the actual bolt break is covered under a TSB (TSB's are "fix it if a customer shows up with a failure"). That's different from a Recall ("all vehicles must be brought in").

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

At this point only Ford knows why the switch was made, and they're not saying much. True. When they initially said there was going to be a pcm flash for retail cars, a possible hp drop was a natural assumption.

    Rear end damage

I tried manual mode 5 min after leaving the dealer's lot. Got to test these things out you know! But here's the example of what I was talking about: I'm cruising around town in D at 40 mph. I floor it and the rpm jumps to 3,300 rpm. That equates to 3rd gear. But if I'm cruising around in D at...
