I downloading it to a flash drive with my computer now. Then I will be uploading it to SYNC 3 on my Explorer. Doesn't make much sense what the tech is telling you.

You can drive once the update starts. It's in the link you posted. Flash drive (SYNC 3 and previous versions of SYNC): Your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the SYNC update installation process. Make sure your vehicle is in a well-ventilated area as your vehicle must remain running...

My guess is that Ford is using the same supplier for both.

I doubt it's normal. That soap bubble won't drain out. It will dry there and leave a film. In time it will only cloud the lens. I would go straight to service and show it to them ASAP.

Check online, you can purchase any where. And I'm sure the price has gone up some. I bought mine 2 years ago.
