    Thoughts on this mod?

No. It's a way to create a lower pressure zone which will allow higher pressure areas (in this case gasoline vapors and possibly crankcase vapors) to be reintroduced into the engine to be burnt rather than to vent them to the atmosphere. Forget about "boost leak". Instead, think of it as a...

    Thoughts on this mod?

You're absolutely right. Using boost pressure through a smaller orifice (jet, nozzle, ejector) causes the velocity to increase. The increase in velocity produces a decrease in pressure. When used with a properly sized orifice this will make a vacuum, the same way carburetors and paint sprayers...

    Thoughts on this mod?

Technically, it is a "boost leak", but it's minuscule. I doubt very highly it's 0.5 psi (how it that being measured, and what does it have to do with actual mass airflow?) It's there on purpose to supply a way to purge cannister vapors (and possibly crankcase ventilation) during boost...

    Thoughts on this mod?

After a bit of research, that "pipe" is part of the EVAP system which prevents hydrocarbon emissions from entering the atmosphere by storing fuel vapors and routing the vapors to the engine to be consumed during normal engine operation. I did not find any info that it was also used for...

What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

I love the inventiveness...but I hope the follow up post won't be "and then the paint started to peel". ;)

    Best Fuel?

You are right. You will give up some torque/HP over a higher octane fuel. Perhaps in older vehicles which weren't able to adjust timing/enrichment on the fly, you might have seen more deposit build up, but I can't see any reason why 87 would leave more deposits in the ST. In higher mileage...

    Thoughts on this mod?

Yes, capping it off would be bad. Another reason to be very careful about shade-tree mechanics posting info online! I mean it's not like Ford has actual engineers doing this kind of stuff- you should immediately jump to the conclusion that they purposely built in a boost-leak! I guess because...

    Any thoughts on this radar?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you shouldn't buy one, that's your choice. It's just my opinion that it's just not a practical device in that it doesn't demonstrate value for the money. From my point of view, if it goes off and you slow down, that justifies that it saved you a ticket...but...

    Any thoughts on this radar?

Think of the money you'd save by not speeding, blowing through school zones, or running stoplights! I'm all about personal freedoms, but with that comes personal responsibility. I regularly run 9 mph over on the highway and haven't had a ticket in 20 years. When I used to live in Tucson I...

    Premium gasoline

You're right, physics hasn't changed- but you're missing the point. The 9HP calculated in that article is simply an approximation of overcoming wind-resistance...period. It does not take into account the HP to overcome other parasitic elements in the drivetrain: run the oil pump, water pump...

    Premium gasoline

Really? I'd truly like to see some documented evidence of 9HP at 60 mph! As far as "it stands to reason if the engine can produce enough horsepower at 10% vs. 13% it'll use less gas". Not necessarily true. Do a google of BSFC maps and look at one. BSFC numbers when mapped against RPM and...

Is it judged "by ear" or by instrumentation? I assume there are also points for craftmanship and aesthetics?

Shout out to @AtlasBlue2022 for going above and beyond in trying to help. I concur- recheck everything.

    Spark plug change

If I could add a bit to my last post in this thread. Consider the engine as a "system". If you're running high ethanol blends, I would not be running colder plugs. The latent heat transfer of ethanol is higher than that of gasoline which lowers the heat range of the plug, altering it's ability...

    700 awhp Explorer ST

It's likely at those HP levels there isn't enough injector or pump to support higher levels of ethanol.

    AS1 Valvetronic Exhaust Build

I'm a big fan of this exhaust as anyone who has read my thread: https://www.explorerst.org/threads/for-those-thinking-about-a-performance-exhaust-system.2775/post-33847 might imagine. I have no idea what it sounds like; that's not my area of expertise, but I like a well engineered solution.

    Port injection

Are they doing this all at the same time, or did you have the mods you listed when the engine blew?

    Port injection

What are your "custom" turbos? Has Livernois given you an estimate of max RPM with stock internals- are they upping the rev limit? What fueling are you planning for 700+ HP- E85? My only point is that even with Meth port injection, there are several more things to consider. Sharing with this...
