I am about to hook up with Allstate for Vehicle Service Contract once the factory expires. Speaking with someone with more knowledge, he states that third-party administrators are not looking for whether a tune was used and won’t have access to the same info that Ford bases their coverage decisions on. For me, this is priority. For others perhaps not.

I am going with post warranty coverage because I have invested a lot into this ride and I absolutely need peace of mind. Extended coverages are not everyone’s cup of tea but I’m sure panning in paying this ride off and can’t be stuck with a massive tranny bill if it decides to take a dump.

That's a good question. Another question is why the first owner wouldn't just request a full refund since the extended warranty hasn't even started yet.
I called the Ford Dealership (where I do my maintenance) & the Sales Manager says 'Used Fords do transfer their Extended Warranty over to the next owner.' Talking to their Finance Manager, they stated 'It's $75 to transfer the extended warranty over to the new vehicle owner.'

$75 is far cheaper than purchasing a new one. So I'll take the hit. It's worth it.

Well, on the lighter side of things, my other car is a 2006 Honda Accord that I bought new. All this ESP talk scares me. I guess that's why I traded my 2017 Explorer in for the 2020 Explorer ST. We love it and plan on keeping it for a very long time. I would need a plan that covers me until 150K. I think most issues won't show up until after 100K.

If you read this forum , the problems may show up sooner rather than later. :cautious:

Update from my local Ford dealership: Ford called back a week later to change their mind. Ford will not transfer an extended warranty to the next owner without the original owner's signature. Which is BS. They got their money, now they want double.

Flood Ford has a website: https://www.floodfordesp.com/

Now I'm considering handing this vehicle over to the wife after a few years. Great deal!!!

Anyone have a preference on warranty companies? I was quoted 4K through Ford protect for 8 years 150k miles. Seems a bit lofty but it’s the only plan they have that covers the electronics components.
Was that “ford protect” plan through your dealership?

I've had my 2023 ST for about 6 weeks. In the past I bought two ESP warranties from Flood. Several years ago I bought a new Escape from my local dealer and when they brought up the warranty I pointed out that the Flood warranty was about 40% less for the same coverage. The sales manager and I were getting along fine and he explained to me that Ford offered incentives to their dealers based on the percentage of warranties they sold in relation to the number of cars. Flood may have sold more warranties than they did vehicles! Bottom line is that he offered me the warranty at $200 over Flood's price and I took it.
When I bought the ST it was a similar story but a higher price. The Escape was a $38K vehicle and the ST was $62K. He still offered it at Flood +$200 and I bought it.
I also bought the paint, leather and wheel warranty since I got the black wheels. That was only $200 so it was a no-brainer.

Are you giving charity to your dealership? Pretty sure they are making money hand over fist for you to be doing that. It's the same policy so not sure why you feel the need to pay more than you need to.

I was a small businessman for 35 years. I got a lot of support from other small business people. They could have bought the same stuff that I sold from a New York mail order house but they chose to support me. They employ quite a few local people who also support local businesses. So I choose to support them.
