Can someone explain what this fake engine noise is?
I have a 2025 st. Does this effect my vehicle?
Believe it was built in 2024 as I have the powered steering column and rear window shades.
It's engine noise that's fake. Sound comes through the speakers. Every ST has it.

It’s essentially additional noise played over the speakers to simulate engine noise. It plays in time with the rise and fall of engine RPM. It has a set volumn, so you can actually bump your radio volumn to a level where you no longer hear it anymore.

put your car in sport mode, radio volumn down and drive and the electronic buzzing “gurgle” you hear is the FENG (fake engine noise)

My understanding is that many new vehicles that are 'sporty' or have sporty aspirations have artificial engine noise piped into the cabin through the audio system as others have noted above. Here's some historical context from Gemini for what it's worth:

Fake engine noise became an industry standard in 2011, when Volkswagen introduced its Soundaktor technology in the Golf GTI. To compensate for quieter engines and enhanced cabin insulation, manufacturers use this tech to pump digital or enhanced engine recordings through vehicle speakers. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Dozens of manufacturers use active sound design, including: [1, 2]

Some vehicles it's not through the audio system. For example, S550 Mustang use a sound tube which is essentially a resonance chamber piped into the interior

@EdmontonST Can you walk me through how to do this? I have ForScan. But don’t have a laptop with windows. Would a tablet or iPhone suffice? I HATE the fake noise lol. Really want that off

Can a Samsung tablet handle that?
No. iOS and android are Forscan Lite... no configuration changes. You need windows or a windows virtual machine.

I only have a work laptop where I can’t really install unauthorized software, so I ended up just buying a cheap refurb laptop on eBay just for ForScan.

@Nightshade hoping you can help me understand the ANC settings before I mess something up. I just disabled FENG the easy way and it definitely worked. With the B&O sound system will enabling the ANC in the As-Built settings like your spreadsheet shows re-enable ANC but keep FENG off? I'm making the assumption that ANC is off as I can definitively hear the true exhaust note now and the overall cabin noise seems to have increased, unless it's all in my head?
Were you ever able to figure out the ANC with this change? I just did the easy method disabling FENG and can't tell if it's power of suggestion or there's more outside noise coming through now.

What year is your ST? The older ‘20-24s do not have the proper microphones to make the system work. With it activated it might do something, but it’s not doing it right.

edit: nevermind. I can see you have a ‘25. Disregard my comment but I’ll leave it up for others
