Is it me?
Alot of times I'm hanging out in my garage. All of a sudden I start hearing noises coming out of the Explorer.
Like creaks or cracking sounding.
I don't have the keys anywhere near. Haven't used the Explorer.
Something "resetting "? Definitely something opening/ closing.

Normal, these cars are always randomly going through stuff while it’s sitting.

It's weird because my wife's 2023 SUV next to it doesn't make a sound

You’re not imagining it — Explorers can be a little “alive” in the garage.

Even when the keys aren’t around, a few systems still wake up now and then:
  • Battery & body control checks – relays click as the car tests and manages battery health.
  • Keyless entry & FordPass – pings for a fob or sends/receives data.
  • HVAC blend doors – small motors behind the dash can re-calibrate and make creaks or ticks.
  • EVAP system – runs emissions self-tests that can sound like faint buzzing.
If it’s occasional and your battery’s fine, it’s just normal “housekeeping.”
If it’s happening constantly or your battery starts dying, then it’s worth having checked.

Bottom line: your Explorer isn’t haunted — just keeping itself in shape.
