Turbo question

We have a 2026 ST with a 3 liter twin turbo and I was told by a friend that I should let it idle before I shut it off to cool the turbo when on long trips on the highway is that true?

I've heard the same thing, but I think it could be caca. How long would you have to sit idling for temperatures to actually decrease? I think it's a good idea and I do it, but its likely as effective, but placebo type effect is suspected.

Many years ago I had a girlfriend that had one of those little Chrysler convertibles with a turbo motor and they actually told her to let it idle before she shut it down, because if the turbine was still spinning when you shut down the motor you could possible cut off the oil supply and destroy the turbo. I'm pretty sure turbo technology has come a long way since then and Ford as done years of research and testing on the EcoBoost motor so I think it's safe to say you can drive it like you would any other car. That being said it's not good for any motor to be run hard and then shut off suddenly but in most cases getting off the highway and driving through your neighborhood to your house is enough time to let things settle down. About the only time to let it idle would be coming off the Highway to rest stop before you shut down and go inside, if its not and emergency.

But that's just my opinion based on my life experience and honestly what do I know.
