Hey all,

2021 ST owner here with a transmission issue and looking for some real-world experience from the community.

The 2-3 shift is rough, but 3-4 is violent, teeth-rattling on almost every upshift. Downshifts are fine except for 3rd to 2nd, those jolt you forward. Brought it to my mechanic and after diagnosis, my extended warranty approved a full transmission replacement.

Here's where it gets interesting, when they went to order the replacement through Ford, it came back on backorder for three months. My mechanic has a transmission shop they've worked with for decades who can do a complete 10R60 rebuild with all the latest revised parts in one to one and a half weeks. The only original component retained would be the outer case.

The rebuild warranty is 18 months/20,000 miles versus Ford's replacement unit at 12 months/12,000 miles, so the rebuild actually carries better coverage.

My question for anyone who has gone through a 10R60 rebuild: did it resolve your issues long-term, or did problems resurface? Would you go the rebuild route again, or wait out the three months for the Ford unit? I know it also depends on the shop doing the rebuild. All the reviews I have found with the shop are very positive, and I spoke with them directly and they have rebuilt a lot of 10r60 and 10r80 transmissions.

Appreciate any feedback and firsthand experience.

Did the shop verify that the gears broke? A transmission rebuild usually involves replacing clutch packs and cleaning and/or modifying valve body. The sun and planetary gears are reused.

Other than that, a rebuilt transmission with stronger components can be great.

Wouldn’t your extended warranty cover any future replacements?

I picked up my ST last Monday. They rebuilt mine and gave me 2 year warranty on the Trans. They also installed a new torque converter. I have about 10 days left on my extended warranty too lol. I'm a week in and so far so good.

Will the warranty cover it? I had my transmission replaced at 12k miles or so and it has been great since then. About 30k miles on the new transmission.
