I have noticed this before. But it was very prevalent when we were sitting outside near the garage last night. I did have my key in my pocket. So it was maybe 10-15ft away from the explorer. But the ST made a number of weird noises multiple times while we were sitting there. Sounded like solenoids moving or something. Maybe from under the hood. it did it probably 3+ times. many minutes apart. And I definitely had NOT bumped my key buttons while it was in my pocket.

I know these things have tons of electronics. Just curious what may cause this over maybe the 1 hour we were sitting there.

Side note, I was curious if the suv being unlocked may make it happen when it saw the key nearby so I locked it. It still made more noises.

All normal. Recently someone took a video of their car sitting for the night, and it was very active with noises and such. Just how the car is.

It's just like that. Mine does it all the time. Lots of clicks and clanks even when the key is not near the vehicle.

Ok. Thanks all for the responses. Even my neighbors who were sitting outside with us looked over a few times. Just weird. I appreciate it. As long as its normal, its all good.

They all do it. 100% normal. My mother once waited in the car for me while i ran into a store to grab something, and when I came back out she said the noises made her think there was a squirrel running around on the roof. Noisiest vehicle I’ve ever owned
