I recently swapped the stock front/rear speakers for the PowerBass 6x9" and 6.5" components, and I already have a JBL BassHub sitting inside the spare tire. For a budget system, it's actually quite impressive. Of course, I've deadened the doors and trunk with Killmat so I'm squeezing what I can out of the OE without going nuts. My question is about what others have been using for a decent budget midrange. The stock mids are a weak point, and now that I've already swapped the midbass and tweets, I just want to round it out and call it a day.
What I've tried so far are the PowerBass 2.75" to see if they'd fit, but of course they were a bit small for the space...only $25 so no big deal to test. I then ordered their 3.5" coax even though they're not really going to run full range, but they're a bit too deep, and I don't want to mod the grill...Again, only about $25.
I know @UNBROKEN used Focal 3.5", but in my setup that would be excessive compared to the PowerBass drivers and just cause me to go down a entirely new rabbit hole. Maybe I already know the answer and I just don't want to admit that what I'm looking for doesn't exist, or maybe I'm manifesting in hopes someone turns up a cheap alternative that will pair with the modest upgrade I've started. Thoughts?
