Illinois- Northern Suburbs -Lowering Springs Shop?

Hello,

My friend bought lowering springs for his 2025 Explorer ST. He took it to Suburban Tire to install his new exhaust and figured since they would have the exhaust off it would be a good time to have the lowering springs installed.

He paid $180 for exhaust installation and they quoted him an additional $1,000 for lowering spring installation which included a realignment. They said it would be 2.1 hour for front and 2.1 hour for rear installation.

My friend declined and said that was way too much. I agreed with him as well.

Anybody in Illinois Northern Suburbs have any recommendation for any shops with a decent price for lowering spring installation?

How mechanically inclined and motivated are you two? You could tackle this one yourselves... Here are 2 great video's from Houston Speed Freaks that show how to do it in a driveway and in a garage.

P&L Motorsport can take care of you. They have done multiple STs in the Chicagoland area. They installed my exhaust in the fall and hopefully one day will return for springs/alignment.

I see you are in Sycamore, which is not too far from me. I am in Pingree Grove. I made the trip all the way there, and they were worth it! It is nice having a shop that deals with Explorer STs.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have a alignment appointment this week. I was able to do both front and rear lowering spring installation with the help of really good friend, Saturday afternoon. We could not have done it without the pass-through sockets set and torques bits for the front struts. It goes better with two on the front struts. The rear springs took about 30 minutes start to finish. The front springs took a little more time. The key to the front strut is to break the strut retaining nut loose while the still installed, just loose, spring compressor and its easy peasy. Hope these hints help someone else.
