Just had my Purge Valve replaced on my 2020. After getting gas, it would have a hard time turning over. Multiple clicking sounds before it would start but would start fine every time after that. Only happen when I put gas in. Engine light stayed on and kept getting an error message in the Ford App.

Took it to the dealership and for two days had to fight with them and finally escalate the issue to the service manager because they kept saying it wasn't covered under my ESP PremiumCare plan. At the EOD, they covered the cost after I had to tell them how to put it into the system. If anyone else has this issue come up and is under coverage this is what worked for me.

Ford Protect advised that in order to have this part covered under the PremiumCare warranty, the part number 9C915 should be submitted as the Causal Part, while the number 9B325 assembly should be listed as the Serviced Part. By entering it in this manner, the corporate Ford Protect warranty system will override the denial and authorize the complete repair. Searching for the base code 9C915 alone may indicate it does not fit my vehicle. This is due to the fact that in the 2020 Explorer ST, Ford has permanently attached the purge valve to the 9B325 fuel line bracket. Nevertheless, the part catalog clearly identifies CU5Z-9C915-A as a direct supersession or equivalent within the GL3Z-9B325-B assembly. Since the electronic valve is the component that has failed, and PremiumCare explicitly covers the valve.

Ford Protect indicated that the solution is to manually enter part number GL3Z-9B325-B into the catalog and associate it with my VIN. The internal software will then display a green confirmation indicating the fitment is correct. Should the system prevent this, it is advisable to submit a Prior Approval Digital Escalation to Corporate Ford Protect, allowing an analyst to manually authorize the bundle.

If you input 9C915 into the warranty system as the Casual Part (the defective component) and designate the ST GL3Z-9B325-B assembly as the Serviced Part, the system will validate the claim.
Lastly, if they weren't going to cover it under the ESP warranty I told them another dealership would be happy to service my truck and cover the valve under warranty (Bluffed them). I feel like I did the service departments job on this one and had to fight the $700 charge they wanted to charge me. Considering you can buy the part for $100 and have it replaced for $50-80 is robbery at best.

Good luck out there folks...
