If you are able to get your hands on a OBD2 code reader/scan tool or Forscan, a DTC would be most helpful.

Otherwise, these App notifications tend to be somewhat vague and generics. That's why it says "for vehicles with capless fuel system) vs giving you a targeted diagnostic. Certainly feel free to try to insert the funnel and see if it helps.

However, just an FYI the actual reason may be completely unrelated. Ford just throws something like this out there because it's simple and the owner can try it themselves. It may not be the correct action to take however. I believe the EVAP purge code will pull up a similar "recommendation" that will do nothing to fix the problem.

Long story short, you really need to get the DTC number as the first point of troubleshooting this.

I had this code pop up last week P0456. Paid $799 for a purge valve job yesterday at the dealer SMH. I had this done the first time 3 years ago under warranty. They gave me 2 year warranty on that part at least. sheesh!

P0456 is usually the purge valve. I hesitate to say definitively because I cannot troubleshoot the vehicle. It's a ~$71 part or so and can be swapped in 30 mins. Unsure if this in your scope of ability but you can search this code number and "explorer evap purge" and find info on how to go about replacing it. A simple test to see if it's bad is to simply blow through it, unfortunately you need to remove it to do this.

P0128 is a code i would erase and just see if it comes back. It's referring to the engine temp not coming up fully. It could be a stuck thermostat, but what i'd do is erase it (while writing the code down and remembering you got it) and see if it returns. You can also pull up the coolant temp PID on your scan tool and see what your coolant temp actually is. If you are getting above 170 degrees i'd reset and see if it returns. If you are staying under 170 consistently it's likely a stuck tstat. Not a terrible job to do.

I had mine throw a P0128 a little less than a year ago. I reset it and it's never since returned.

I was too up until a couple of years ago, then I read a forum conversation and was like "wait, what". Never had a problem, but I was doing it. I'd have pumps shut off early sometimes, so I always ran to click, waited a few seconds, and ran to click again. No more, lol.

Mine was the exact opposite. I was running low and only filled half the tank. Code popped up the next day.

I’ve done all this . I’ve cleaned up and lubricated and even unplugged my battery for 10mins to see if it turns off the CEL and doesn’t work. The CEL is still on after driving it

I think I’m going to get the system smoked to see what’s going. I wonder if it is my Purge valve solenoid needing to be replaced. But before I do I’m going to clear the code and than see if it turns on again

Paid Ford $799 yesterday smh. If it happens again within 2 years they'll fix it under parts warranty. If it happens after 2 years i'll replace it myself.

Last night, I did a fuel funnel inlet trick 5 to 7 times, filled up my coolant reservoir to the maximum capacity, and then cleared my cars codes afterwards. This morning, I drove the car around, and the CEL has not returned. I’m wondering if I’m in the clear now.

Check your emission monitor status. Look at the EVAP monitor. It’s likely incomplete.

I’d say you are in the clear if that one completes and the CEL doesn’t return and is not a pending code.

if that monitor can’t complete, eventually it will trigger the CEL again.
