Just got this in the mail so FYI for anyone years from now who has a camera issue. I believe this is '20-25 Model year explorers only (at the time of this post) but don't quote me on that.


Why are you receiving this notice: Ford is providing a one-time repair program for your vehicle's rear view camera. Your rear view camera is likely working fine right now, but if it fails within the first 15 years of your vehicle's life, we will replace it once at no cost to you"

What is the effect: If your rear view camera stops working, you may experience a blank or distorted image on the center display screen when the vehicle is in reverse.

Mine has been flawless since the last recall.

They did a Software update to my 2020 ST and the rear camera stopped working and the front had distorted colors, they replaced both and it was fine from that point on. I hope to have better luck with my 2026 ST. only time will tell!

Don't quote me on this, but I get the sense this might be hardware related vs the (numerous) software recalls/updates pertaining to the camera system.



Regardless, if you are like me and hate losing your vehicle to the dealership for a day without a loaner, the actual camera replacement isn't that expensive and it's pretty straightforward. The cameras are relatively cheap, but keep in mind there are two different camera part numbers (and with physical differences) so you need to get the right one. I already replaced mine (I scratched it during the winter removing salt) and pretty straightforward. Under $50 for the camera (at the time), 15 mins to swap it out by pulling down the "Explorer" trim panel in the rear off the liftgate, and 10 mins to boot up ForScan and perform the "LIN Module Initialization" service function. Done
