Hi guys-

I'm running E-50 and have been told that I should be changing the oil about every 3,500 miles, even while using full synthetic. I use a very good full synthetic for high performance vehicles and a new premium filter with every oil change.

What are your thoughts?

Catch cans- yes or no? Is there one that really stands out compared to others?

FYI- I add a bottle of either Seafoam or Lucas to the gas with each oil change. I'm hoping that will help keep the injectors, fuel pump, and valves clean & happy.

Thanks!

I have 119K tuned miles on my car (124 total) with probably 90 or more on E50. My oil gets changed when the dash lights up…car runs perfect. Never had the first additive in the tank.

Oil dilution is a real thing but your exact interval can be determined by a ton of factors (driving conditions, oil used, tune, etc...) I tend to shoot for the 3k-4k range for changes on both of our STs. You could always sent an oil sample out for testing if you want to try and narrow it down.

I usually stay away from additives as well. It hard to see any real benefits in a DI car. However, I try to make sure to fill up with fuel from stations I trust.

I do run catch cans on both STs... both from J&L and I have had zero problems. I usually empty them when I change the oil.

Catch can is good cheap insurance. For oil changes, every 5k miles or 6 months is fine. FYI I think the additives are useless.

Are you E50 all the time? If so I'd go no more than 5k intervals. You could always test for dilution if you are curious how far you can push it. Ethanol can knock down viscosity a bit.

Catch cans can offer cleaner intake air and for vehicles with only DI help a bit with carbon deposits back of valve. I run one.

A can of Seafoam or B12 every oil change is how I roll.

Never used e50 but I run a UPR dual valve catch can with open PCV valve + add-on check valves, change oil every 5k, and run Techron (20oz) about 500 miles before oil change.
