My 2021 Explorer ST had the passenger side outside mirror replaced several years ago due to pellet gun damage. Now I am getting a blind spot and cross traffic fault detection, and the dealership is telling me that the only fix is to replace the entire outer unit and contents at a cost of ~$2,100. Is this my only option?

I could be wrong, but I think that sensor is in the rear tail light, water intrusion? Intermittent fault?

The dealership told me that it was because the wires in the passenger side mirror became disconnected, and the only fix was to replace the entire mirror assembly.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. The mirror was replaced, and the system worked for a year or so. Now I am getting a fault message, and the dealership says the entire mirror assembly has to be replaced. I’m looking for a fix that costs less that $2,100+.

If the wires became disconnected. Just reconnect them? It's a simple matter to pull the door card and access side mirror.

So the mirror glass was replaced, now you have an internal fault. Sounds like you have nothing to loose, I would watch a few YouTube videos then try to disassemble and repair it. You can also buy and install a used assembly and use Forscan to cal the camera. A new unit from ford is about 1/2 that price, not too difficult to install. Another option would be a auto body repair shop.
