Why do the fog lights only come on when it's dark?

Typically, they only light in conjunction with the headlamps. If your headlamps are on automatic (light-sensing) mode, then they will be off and the fog lamps will be off too. Try switching the headlights on manually and see if your fog lamps operate.

They can come on with the parking lights or headlights. The won’t come on with the Auto settings in the Day due to federal regulations about no DRLs with any other headlight or fog light lighting. That’s why the white strip gets dimmer when the headlights are on.

Also, the white strip goes off when the turn signal is used for same regulations.

That can actually be disabled in forscan. All of these settings can be changed in fact.

I like every car I've ever owned to remain in stock original condition. LOL Nothing bothers me enough to change. The problem that bothers me nightly and I want to eliminate is cars driving around with their lights off completely or just DRL's because the idiots don't know or care that those are not headlights for night driving and the rear of the vehicle is completely dark! I honk and flash my lights in vigilante mode LOL! Most of them never figure out why I'm doing that. Some day they'll get rear-ended by a truck on a dark winding road and learn the hard way or win a Darwin award...
