22 ST Drone Sound During Deceleration

Traded my 17 ST for a 22 with 15k miles about 5 weeks ago. During my first week with it I noticed an intermittent drone sound coming from what sounds like the mid to rear passenger area. I only hear the sound during deceleration and sometimes coasting. It’s not a constant drone and so far I’ve not heard it during acceleration.

Dealer has had it twice. First they replaced the front rotors and pads even after I said the sound is not up front. Second time I took the tech for a ride so he could hear it. They then proceeded to check trans and motor mounts and listed to the front again. They basically said they couldn’t find the noise and if it got louder bring it back. Going back next week to insist they check the rear.

Spoke with service manager today and asked him to change the differential fluid and check the bearings and axles. He said he couldn’t just “tear into the car” unless they could pinpoint the noise. Said Ford wouldn’t let them. I find this to be pretty ridiculous. What’s the point of my warranty and extended warranty plan?

Any advice on the drone sound? Any tips on how to deal with a service department that apparently doesn’t want to dive into an issue? Do I get corporate involved or request a FSE?

Clearly they can tear into your vehicle without pinpointing the exact issue because they already have. It just hasn't worked out in their favor so far. By them doing this, they have acknowledged an abnormal issue. Its now on them to find it and RESOLVE it. You have the service write ups so there's no denying it. I suggest you have another conversation with the Service Manager to remind them of what I just wrote!

We all need to know when we've dug a hole too deep and when to quit digging. Since this is the dealerships hole they won't be allowed to stop digging until the real issue is found and fixed!

Caster's first sentence is perfection.
He destroyed their logic, use this to your advantage.
