Have been getting “Shift System Fault” messages on inst cluster sporadically. No power, nor response from engine either for about 5 seconds. Then it seems to reset and can continue driving normally. Have 77k miles on it

Couple weeks ago, same issue with no power but just a grinding / cavitation sound from transmission. No error on dash.

Took to dealer and they are going to rebuild the whole transmission they said. Not sure why they don’t just swap it out. Maybe replacements aren’t available? They said they are dealing with tons of transmission issues.

Also replacing 2 CV axles.

Fortunately it had the Gold CPO Powertrain warranty, and I purchased an extended warranty as well.

Most of the time they’ll rebuild it because it’s cheaper for Ford. My dealer was good and pushed to get a full replacement done on mine.

Lots of vehicles, dealers are saying there are not trans. rebuild kits for them and that you need a new trans . I'm a little shocked yours is rebuildable yet there should be no reason they shouldn't be.

There are a bunch of TSB’s on these 10R60’s for harsh shifts. Depending on where you fall, some sort of a rebuild is completely realistic. That being said, mine start acted funny a month or so back at around 55,000 miles (the ONLY issue I’ve had since buying new in April of ‘20). After the tech drove it, then dropped the pan, they found lots of metal shavings.
It was decided to replace the transmission under the ESP, which just paid for itself many times over.

Thanks for the insights. I am somewhat concerned about a dealership tech rebuilding a transmission. I guess we'll see how it goes!

MIne was rebuilt at about 25,000 miles and was driving better than new. They did the TSB for it and now I'm at 62K.

That’s reassuring. Thx.
