    Timberline Skid plate

Zero issues, which is to be expected. Had an oil change knocked out last week with the skid plate on and it was completely uneventful as well.

Customer Satisfaction Program 22N17 - Easy, and inexpensive, DIY.

I’ve been putting this off for quite a while since it’s the only issue I’ve had with my ‘20 in four years of ownership. Having better things to do than take time out of my day for a trip to the dealership, I tackled it on my own in about 10 minutes for a whopping $15. Sure it shows the time for...

Having fun without losing towing capability

There’s a lot of info out there that can be found with a search. That being said, here’s a perfect recipe for a DD that will tow without missing a beat: Ford PIU rear sway bar and matching [stiffer] shocks. All the Steeda stuff will rust and rot if you have to deal with snow and salt. For a...

    Ford Performance Exhaust

It’s been brought up many times - search. Ford Performance has been using Borla for several decades. No different here.

    Timberline Skid plate

Click on the link you just quoted - has a hi-res picture. Just requires bolts and speed nuts - also shown in the instruction sheet. Any parts guy should be able to get everything.

    Timberline Skid plate

Read it again: OE part number. You can buy it directly from a Ford dealer since it’s a Timberline part. The FP kit is the same, just with their number - they have been doing this for decades.

    Timberline Skid plate

They are scheduled to be back in stock later in March. For those that are desperate, the OE part number for the plate is: L1MZ-78001A08-D. Probably can be found through any Ford dealership but will be more expensive than the FP kit.

    Ford Performance skid plate kit

There’s also an OE part number on the plate: L1MZ-78001A08-D. Another option is to just purchase it (and the hardware) through a local dealer. Will be more expensive than this kit, but beggars can’t be choosers.

    Steeda powdercoating question

Any suspension component that flexes and twists will crack away the powder coating and rust. My Steeda bar was wasted after two years, but my OE springs and front sway bar look perfect after four years and 40,000 miles in MI & OH. The PIU rear bar will probably hold up just as well. Ford used to...

    Mods for towing ?

A bigger intercooler is a no-brainer. They are all good (Steeda in mine). I have a Gearhead AO tune and tow my boat often - zero issues. Many tuners want you to have a separate Tow tune and/or don’t recommend using their tune(s). The PIU larger rear sway bar and matching shocks, along with the...

    Ford Performance skid plate kit

They are still shipping. My order from October arrived a couple weeks ago. Getting mad and cancelling means you get nothing.

There are seven different drive modes. What are the differences?

If only Ford put this stuff in their literature.

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

That’s what I’ve been saying all along. Not worth the effort to pull the gears when the carrier will most likely be plug-and-play.

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

The Aviator and ST diff’s are the same. No brainer.

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

As far as I can tell, the same ‘non-coated’ axles have matching part numbers between the Timberline, ST, and Aviator: L1MZ-4K138-C and L1MZ-4K139-C Then again, Ford has known to be wrong before. If common sense came in to play, I’d like to assume all the inner and outer splines are the same...

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

It’s not going to be a Torsen. It will be the same Aviator/ST diff. There are a lot of them on eBay for just a few hundred dollars. Just because the housing is the same, doesn’t mean the internals are. This will help:

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

Now search the S606B differential, which is on the tag. The same ENGINEERING number will come up for both the Aviator and ST. Same part numbers I already posted.

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

There are several variations with the 3.58 gears using the 8.8“ differential. Again, that tag is an engineering number, not a part number. The part number for the ST/Aviator entire carrier is L1MZ-4000-D (to the best of my recollection), whereas it’s M1MZ-4000-TB for the Timberline. I looked...

    Explorer ST/Timberline Part Swap

Would be cool if it’s true, but that isn’t a part number, it’s an engineering number on the housing. It only means the case is the same. The Timberline carrier assembly part number is listed a few posts up and it only cross-references to the 2.3 model. If you look in through the axle shaft...
