New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

Any exhaust leaks around the catalysts are irrelevant to the tail pipes, so I wouldn’t let that worry you. They are probably handled under warranty, but good if Ford recalled any. I couldn’t see an entire exhaust being replaced unless there were many other welds on the way out, especially if the...

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

I believe the exhaust problems (if there's a recall?) were/are for the welds on the downpipes. You won't have any issues adding an axle back kit. If your DP's had to come off, the flex-pipes are easily removable without having to pull the rest of the exhaust. Even if you swap your rear sway bar...

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

The U-bolt clamps are not bad at all and probably are more secure than the band clamps since they crimp the pipe (that makes any disassembly a real pain!). They just don't win any awards as far as looks go. You won't have any issues if you use them, and they'll be mostly hidden away if the...

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

Obviously they are cheaper, and of course they work by crushing/crimping the pipe. Still, you can just as easily grab the lap joint clamps or just weld. I don’t work for Gibson, so grousing about them is a waste of time. Doesn’t really matter anyway since the kits have been selling fine.

    ST front recovery points

At least from the Ford drawing, there appear to be some attaching points on the frame that are used. Might be possible to adapt them if you’re willing to modify the bumper cover.

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

Yep, I inquired about that. From their perspective, they didn't want to use band clamps since the u-bolts provide maximum clamping force. Liability, I imagine. Probably saves a few $$$ as well. No worries though, the lap-joint clamps I showed a few posts back are easy enough to acquire or the...

    SLD JLT Oil Separator

Well, do the research and draw your own conclusions between the two. I’m not a fan of JLT stuff for my own reasons.

Not that I know, but you can always call them and grovel. Still a decent price no matter what, but the discount was definitely a bonus.

    Exhaust system.

The axle-back kits are the best bang for the buck since it’s all about sound with very little gain in performance. Check out MRT, MBRP, and Gibson.

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

For anyone that has ordered these kits, just got word that Gibson anticipates they’ll start shipping in a couple weeks. They are a bit behind due to Thanksgiving, but are hustling. On a good note, over 40 kits were sold right off the bat which is very cool.

    Exhaust system.

^This. Search the web - there are LOTS of clips out there for any kit you choose. Otherwise, they just will essentially drain your wallet if you are simply looking to change the sound. If you want to do it economically, have a custom shop just swap out the mufflers - that is where most of the...

    aFe Exhaust

Looks nice, but probably no real difference in performance despite their claims (the 2-1/2" Magnaflow kit is similar). Just as economical to go with an axle-back kit unless you are in need of new flex-pipes. Otherwise, decent sounding. P.S. @Clears: You have that 3-bolt rear subframe - just be...

Steeda tower brace and sway bar. Need advice.

The thicker rear bar is beneficial for handling and will help bring the under-steer down a bit. No difference in ride, and it also works great with the stock springs. For those of us that don't want to bother swapping to aftermarket springs, the sway bar is a perfect upgrade.

This is the picture on their site right now - I'm guessing about $1800: https://afepower.com/ford-explorer-st-performance-upgrades-parts-intake-exhaust-tuner-air-filter
