What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

I have the same story. When I first moved to Chicago some years ago I was an avid biker. After 1 year and several near collisions my mind went from "if" I'd ever have an accident to "when" it would happen. Since I had two small children at the time the bike became history. I got into rally...

    Rear end damage

Here's where I completely agree with you. Mod the car at your own risk. If you truly believe Ford did this on purpose so they could pay out thousands in warranty claims to save 30 bucks, I just can't agree with you. Maybe it was availability. Maybe it was owners with modified vehicles on...

    Rear end damage

Since this is at least the third thread on this subject, and it just gets more and more whiny, let me put in my two cents (yet again). I haven't heard of a single one of these "3 bolt" systems failing in non-modified cars. And that number is out of thousands that have been built, so even if...

Explorer ST 1/4 Mile Time Slips

Truth is, an otherwise stock ST with a ZFG tune on E50 and downpipes is capable of high 11s. That shows just how competent this platform is. To find another 100+ horsepower to get into the 10s; that's easy too- bring money!

Burning smell from air vents + occasional puff of smoke from engine

My first thought like everyone else would be a slight crack in the cat. But this should be accompanied with some odd noise. Second would be a possible coolant issue, but since you insist it's not coolant, I'd suspect a wiring harness or loom is misrouted; potentially contacting a hot surface.

Looks like someone already grabbed the Whipple intercooler ;)

    Anyone running propylene glycol coolant?

There is science, and then there's anecdotal research. I'm glad it works for you. Distilled water has even better heat transfer and will work better than any glycol mix if there's no need to extend freezing and boiling points.

2020 Explorer ST Humming/Rattle When Accelerating

Being honest, no sound recording is going to allow someone to diagnose this problem. There are literally scores of things that could be suspect. The two most difficult things to diagnose are noises and electrical gremlins. Dealerships, especially in warranty situations, aren't going to spend a...

2020 Explorer ST Humming/Rattle When Accelerating

There are a number of issues with both cracking welds on catalytic converters and flex pipes. First thing is when a dealership tells me it's "normal and coming from the wastegate", I'm going to roll my eyes. However, when you say accelerating, are you saying full throttle, or just any type of...

    Anyone running propylene glycol coolant?

If you do a bit of research, you'll find that there's no way under the same circumstances that prop glycol is more efficient than than ethylene glycol. Propylene is definitely safer, but less efficient in terms of heat transfer (viscosity) and freezing point. That's why ethylene is used in...

Anyone using an Autel Maxilink 629 scanner?

What the heck is that first Rolls-Royce V12 for? At first I thought it was for aircraft duty, but on second glance what I thought was a gear reduction box looks more like a pump. And just curious, what plane uses those radials?

Your first message and this is what you post? You're kidding right?

    Rear end damage

One member here claimed their subframe was replaced by Ford with the 4 bolt model after the bolt sheared.

    Looking for fuel mileage advice...

The hotter air is less dense- therefore it actually uses less fuel to compensate. It's always trying to be at a stoichiometric ratio. Forget trying to make better gas mileage. If you're worried about gas mileage, stay away from sport mode which doesn't disengage clutches and lock-up converter...

    Looking for fuel mileage advice...

There isn't anything you can do to greatly impact your fuel mileage. If you're just trying to save money, opt for the 89 octane fuel, make sure your air filter is clean, stay in ECO mode, and keep your foot out of it. As far as the predicted miles to empty, that's just based on the estimated...

    new guy here

I'm impressed (and feeling a bit smug) with those numbers on stock exhaust (other than downpipes). I saw in another thread you've got a thermal catback on the way. I'd love to see another dragy run without any tuning (just with new exhaust) so one could have a basic idea how much the new...

    Steering/Front End Popping Noise

I'm going to assume you're moving, right? Any vibration coming through the steering wheel coincident with the noise? If so, I'd agree most likely CV joints.

Garage space enough? Need local help

I employ the old guard method. A tennis ball suspended by a cord from the ceiling. When it touches the windshield, you're in!
