Explorer Compliance Recall Notice 25C42/NTHSA Recall 25V543

Those symptoms don’t surprise me at all. My 2020 had a high resistance ground in the AWD module and so it was getting lower voltage than it needed (9v) and it was causing the ABS module to become unresponsive after i put it in drive or reverse so i had NO BRAKES at all until i mashed the brake...

I posted a very thorough Guide on this repair here: https://www.explorerst.org/threads/guide-fixing-awd-module-ground.9634/

Guide - Fixing AWD module ground.

Background: A common issue in these cars in the 2019-2021 build date is a failing ground on the AWD module under the driver’s seat. The metal enclosure of the AWD module is supposed to be grounded by 3 nuts to the body of the car. These standoffs are often covered in paint and in general are...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Thanks, glad this is behind me finally. I think if somebody didn’t feel comfortable opening the harness connector up, they could totally just get away with a simple ring terminal under one of the AWD module nuts and ground that wire to the frame. since the case is also grounded. I just wanted to...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

I soldered a good ground to the ground pin of the AWD module and everything is completely fixed. No codes, no dash lights, AWD works and all the drive modes and cruise control and everything works. My issue seemed pretty unique because most people have the ground completely fail but mine was...

    6 Faults and AWD Module

I added a good ground to the AWD module and all of my codes went away and the car is back to normal.

    2025 Oil Capacity

I’m not offended but as an engineer, i’ll say this is the type of stuff we push hard to get right and management and management’s management, and management’s management’s management shut us down because of rushed deadlines and budget. It’s sad but true

    2025 Oil Capacity

The ST user manual says to check the level properly you need to run the engine until it’s at temp. Then shut it off, and wait 10 minutes. And then your oil should be within the cross hatches like you’d expect. Checking it cold will always read high like that. Scared me the first time i saw that.

    2025 Oil Capacity

With 6.5 qts of fresh cold oil just put in, car hasnt even been started yet with the new oil. This is where it sits. Right where the bend starts. After driving, getting it up to temp, and shutting it off for 10 mins, it may sit at a different spot. I’ll try to upload a pic of that scenario...

    2020 Explorer ST

I replaced the battery and it didn’t fix any of the communication errors. I actually got to the root cause. The ground on my AWD module is failing intermittently. I verified it with a multimeter and looking at the oscilloscope on forscan. I have a whole thread about it in case anyone else sees...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

SOLVED: AWD module under the seat had a poor ground with ~50Ohm resistance to the body and i was reading 2.3 volts on the ground of the FADA connector. I wiggled the connector going to the module under the seat and the grounds completely cleaned up to 0ohms and no more voltage on the ground pin...

    6 Faults and AWD Module

BTW i fully verified this was my issue. I was detecting 50Ohms between the AWD module case and ground. I was reading 2.3 volts from the ground wire at the FADA connector to the engine block. I wiggled the connector under the driver seat going to the AWD module and all of the grounds cleared up...

    Passenger front diff leak

awesome thanks for all that! and yes the axle popping has been so annoying so a good chance to kill 2 birds with one stone. thanks again. Might not tackle it right away

    AWD Module Calibration

Mongoose cable can talk to more modules than any other cheap OBD adapter. It can talk to ABS and all the extra modules others cannot because it has both Hi and Lo can bus support. FDRS is literally the dealership software Ford uses. There is nothing in FDRS you cannot do that a dealership can...

    AWD Module Calibration

I have heard other people in other threads post of similar issues and the problem was that the gear ratio in the transfer case or differentials in the front and rear did not line up causing the gears to wear rapidly. What was the issue?

    Passenger front diff leak

I appreciate you coming back to update this thread. I’m confident i can get the axle out. Is the seal easy to replace once the axle is out and was the part number CN1Z-7H424-B correct? Thanks

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

You guys wont believe this but wiggling the connector under my seat to the awd module fixed everything and i caught it live in a forscan recording. All the disabled features are back online and forscan is not showing any more codes. I might just drive it to ford and show them what i found and...

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Notice AWD module Voltage Low DTC after the engine was already running for some time. I’m hoping this is just an AWD module ground issue. Going to attempt to check the ground right now. Gotta figure out how to pull the carpet up

SOLVED: Electrical Issues - Lost Communications and Invalid Data Received

Found something very interesting. My AWD module voltage is very low compared to the rest of my module voltages.
