What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

Installed a battery pack for extended Park Mode and isolation from the car's battery, for my THINKWARE Q800PRO dash cam. Easy peasy if you already have the hardwire cable installed to your fusebox--you just need ACC (spare fuse 37) and ground. I have the unit sitting underneath the driver's...

    Consumer Report on Explorers

CR is pretty much on point. However, the ST is a niche vehicle that should not be grouped into their summary. Competitors mentioned by CR do not have a street performance version of their 3 row SUVs. If I wanted just a grocery getter family hauler, the Telluride completely outclasses a...

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

They've also replaced one member's with the same 3 bolt. That was one of the earlier cases and the member sold the Explorer after they fixed it.

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

That's unusual. The pipe ends should have been enlarged slightly. Mine went on (overlapped) easily after i de-burred the cuts and sprayed silicone lube. Maybe they neglected to enlarge the ends on some. If that's the case, just cut off more of the stock pipe or the Gibson pipe and use butt...

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

I won't say fitment is perfect. I followed their directions carefully and one side sits back further than the other. You can account for this when you position the tips, but on mine, the tips do have to sit out a bit--they pointed funny when i had them more flush.

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

Honest exhaust shops are few and far between. Especially true for chains like Midas. Agree 100% with RED09GT. They probably charged you more labor to make this "crap kit" magically fit--am I right? I would seriously encourage anyone who buys this kit to DIY. It's not hard. The money you...

    2022 Helm Service Manual Available

Is this better than the Ford service manual? I've used the free online version and for the few things I've used it, it's pretty good. Here's the rear subframe link: https://www.foexplorer.com/ford_explorer_removal_and_installation_rear_subframe-1496.html

What Have You Done To Your Explorer ST Today

Thanks. That certainly seems like it would make a huge difference. Did you have to remove the seats or did your just remove the carpet? Got any pics?

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

Nice. The more bad press the better. Hopefully that will get Ford to fix it right! I think it would be sweet if Consumer Reports, NYTimes, Forbes, etc reported on this recall.

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

I had my PCM updated about a year after ownership since my Explorer was an early build. I was tuned but made sure to return to stock. The updated PCM firmware resulted in a change in strategy code and you cannot just reload your tune. Thankfully, I had Livernois and their customer service is...

Safety Recall 22S27 Rear Axle Bolt Fractures

Not necessarily. They know exactly which vehicles are affected. I know I haven't gotten a recall notice. Maybe this includes the 4 bangers with the 3 bolt. As has happened before, just because your car falls in the build range doesnt mean its affected.

    Rear end damage

i wouldnt be surprised if they blame the bolt and just repace it with a stronger one and call it a day.

    Another missing part? Firewall insulation

These are pics of my MY2020. The firewall insulation is an aluminum clad material that starts up top of the firewall and goes all the way down to surround the areas around the downpipes. It appears to be in segments. Your insulation may be completely black without the aluminum skin. I've...

How can I carry 3 kayaks with no roof rails?

I wonder if the roof rail specs are born out of structural concern or if they are concerned about top loaded weight being a rollover risk. I would think that it would be safe hauling 3 plastic kayaks that weight 125lb and driving conservatively as appropriate.

    Steeda colors

Could be cost cutting for 2022 but could also just be just a temporary supply-related omission--plenty of those going back to 2020. Edit: looking at some others' pics, that insulation may just be completely black now--without the aluminum. Hopefully that's the case with yours. I did see some...

    Steeda colors

Not to be an alarmist, but does your firewall not have the insulation that other ST's have? See pic below which is patricklb1's and shows the aluminum clad insulation I'm referring to. At the very least, that layer serves to cut down on engine noise.

New Gibson axle-back kit in the works

The cheapest on the Gibson website was a little above $500. The AutoAnthing deal is great and they are a legit company. Love my Gibson Axleback.

    Vibration Rattle

the exhaust flex sections have been problematic. Also, sometimes the exhaust heat shields can come loose. lastly, the undercarriage covers can be loose... althiugh thats usually noise at highway speeds.
