Was at my dealership today and from emails shared with my friend there and Ford, supposedly the fix is being rolled out in August and my car will be expected to arrive between Sept 11-18.

Really hope that this is happening….

After a visit to the Ford Dealer email sent:
This e-mail is concerning our 2023 Ford Explorer ST that we purchased on May 20, 2023. As I am sure everyone is aware the Explorer ST could not be delivered due to the camera issue with the vehicle. I visited your dealership on July 26, 2023 to clear up the temporary loaner paperwork and speak with a manager at your location. After a brief conversation he went into the office area to speak with someone about what could be done to offset the non-delivery issue with this vehicle. Upon his return he repeated that the August 7th 2023 repair date was looking good for the vehicle to be released and at that time we should speak with management about what financial arrangement can be made to adjust for the months delay in delivery.

To sum this e-mail up, we appreciate your dealership supplying us with a temporary loaner vehicle and making every effort to bring this issue to a close. Unfortunately, that did not stop the monthly payment of $1,164.74 per month from being made for a vehicle we do not have. As of the promise date of August 7th, 2023 we will be well into the third payment cycle yielding a total amount of $3,492,22 for this vehicle we do not have. This is provided the August 7th date is real and the vehicle can be delivered on that date. We are also concerned about how much value this vehicle has depreciated or lost due to this fiasco. My suspicion is Ford will need to discount these vehicles steeply and possible offer special financing to sell all the Explorers at the dealers and sitting in their inventory.

We are open to suggestions from your dealership as to how to make this purchase right and remove the bad taste left in our mouths from buying a Ford Explorer ST.

How many people are in the same situation as we are? (please reply)

In all my years, I have not heard of anyone being in your position. If the car is not delivered, it is not collecting payments. I would have lawyered up when this first happened and pushed for car or remedy after the first week.

As far as being jerked around, assuming that 1/4 of the 21000 cars sitting at CAP are preordered by customers such as myself, there are thousands of people waiting.

FYI your dealer may not be able to release the car from the Aug 7th update as that specific fix is only for delivered vehicles. That being said a few of us have been told to expect the full fix to be out within a month. Whether that will come to be is anyone’s guess but it’s the first bit of hope on the proverbial olive branch that has been extended since all of Ford’s bullshit began.

Your dealership may end up releasing the car anyways after the temp software fix, as they may not know better - or might know something that others may not.

I am in the same boat. Purchased May 17th. Financed through ford at 3.9% if I remember the special financing correctly at the time. My dealer put me in a 23 Mach-E loaner and when I make a payment I screen shot the payment confirmation then email it to the salesman. In return the manager cuts me a check. Ill be making my second payment today. From the other posts I've seen on this site and facebook groups I'm in a pretty good spot. However when I spoke with the salesman yesterday he told me they have not received any updates from ford. He has been getting all of his information either from me or what he can find online. They pulled all of their inventory after my purchase apparently that's how they found out about the stop sale... All the info I have found is any vehicle that has not left the dealer lot will have to wait for the permanent fix which is loosely slotted for September. Only vehicles already on the road will be eligible for the interim fix the second week of august. By September I imagine they will be launching the 24 models shortly after the big mustang reveals. Yes its nice they are making payments but I agree that they will have to fire sale the 23 models to make room for 24s.

Dealer just called and assured me the Explorer ST will be updated and released to us on August 7th, 2023. He also stated the Explorer ST's are very hard to get and will not be discounted. I guess we will see if this information is correct on August 7th. As an aside, he also stated they sold another Explorer ST for full sticker yesterday that will also be released to that customer on August 7th. I was just advised by the dealership management they were not going to sell another Explorer ST until the stop sale order was lifted on Wednesday (July 25, 2023). To paraphrase a quote from Alice In Wonderland - things just keep getting "Curiouser and curiouser!

I'd call the dealership and ask for the service department. Ask them if they are allowed to apply the Aug 7 software update to vehicles sitting on the lot. The service manager at my dealership read the details on the fix and said that they cannot apply the fix to vehicles on their lot and would have to wait for the permanent remedy. Sales people will tell you what they think you want to hear.

I saw this posted in one of the FB ST groups
. It sounds like they will be building new ST Explorers without the 360 cam. Doesn't inspire confidence in them coming up with a permanent fix if they are just removing 360 from new builds.

When I was called today it was from the dealer's service manager and he stated the August 7th fix will allow our vehicle to be released on that day. I was not called by a salesman as they know nothing about what is happening with the camera issue. I only deal with the service manager or the dealer's main management. As I said, we will see what happens on August 7th.

I’d call their bluff and demand a rebate. I don’t buy for a second they aren’t sitting on thousands of ST’s and just hoping to salvage the sales they can at full sticker prices. Especially within a couple of months of the 24 release.

Can I ask what state you’re in? My dealer said that the august 7th fix won’t apply to my car and I still have to wait. He’s not exactly been helpful. I love the explorer and wait to wait it out but I need a car, like 3 months ago.

I'm new to join, but have been watching this for awhile now. I have a 2020 - never had a problem with my camera, and am getting a 2023 when off stop sale. Was told today by a dealer that the software update was pushed off to November now. He said dealers are supposed to start receiving new cameras to install on their vehicles next week so they can sell what's on the lot. We'll see if that plays out.

IMO. They are trying to keep you on the hook without you putting up too much of a fight. Things don't add up. Most things I've seen online the software fix is for cars on the road. My Dealer has been pretty transparent with me that ford hasn't been communicating with them. Other than the fact that they will be hit with a pretty hefty fine from ford for letting a vehicle leave the lot during the stop sale. If ford was going to start letting vehicles leave the lot after the software update. It doesn't make sense for them to start allowing the option of ordering vehicles with a 360 delete as the video above stated. Sounds like they know they are short on parts or want to allocate the current supply to fix what's built and sitting as fast as possible. To get them on the road because they have no other option. I don't recall if it was earlier in this thread or a different one on this site but there are images of hundreds maybe thousands of explorers sitting at Chicago speedway. There is no way your dealer can think for a second they will sell every 23 explorer they have ordered for sticker this late in the year. 24s will be announced anytime now and orders will be open shortly after. With Sync 4 and Blue Cruise on the table no ones going to spend the same money and not take those options. Hell Sync 4 has me tempted enough to turn right around and trade my 23 in before I drive it off the lot if it takes that long to be fixed.

Received from Ford for my order that was "allegedly" being built last week ....

We understand it has been too long since you last heard from us. Just wanted to give you an update on the status of your Explorer ST order. While production of your vehicle was projected to begin the week of July 17, 2023, supply chain challenges continue to cause delays and uncertainty.
This is frustrating, we get it. We want nothing more than to get your Ford up on the line and start assembling it. And we will continue to work hard to reduce the delays to try to get you on the road in your new vehicle soon.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we get more information, at least once every 45 days. Hang in there. We really do appreciate your patience and understanding.

When looking it up it still says "in production", however my dealer told me that it is built and they are expecting delivery between 8/8-8/14 .... moral of the story is that nobody knows what they are talking about especially Ford.

Damn shame with Ford, getting close to having to move on .......

I received the exact same email last Thursday 7/27/23... but my order status was updated on 7/24/23 indicating it had just gone into production. Order date 3/31/23. My salesperson assured me "oh they will build it" but he's clueless.

update* I just called FoMoCo general customer support line and the rep was able to see an 8/27-9/2 projected dealership delivery date for my ST. That info is not listed (yet) in my online tracking details. She said there is a "disposition" section on her end that she could see that would list any reasons the vehicle might be held up on the line... she said there were no notes there, but also that sometimes there are issues but they aren't listed. Smh. So internal communication is likely just as weak as communication with us. So... kind of optimistic with those delivery dates but any way you slice it, no matter what "info" you have, it's just a game of wait-and-see. Until I can touch it, this ST is just a figment of my imagination!

My order date was 4/28, went "into production" third week of June, still shows that on the site ... salesman stated that the car is built and being shipped. Truth be told there were some points the last three months that it seemed like I knew more than them so I guess we'll see. I have a 2020 coming off lease with low miles and its immaculate, may have to buy it, cars are completely out of control right now.

That's the same boat I'm in. I just extended my lease with Ford Credit till the stop sale is over.

If you haven’t had any issues 20’s had a lot of features that started getting deleted during covid. Idk if you have any of them on yours in particular but these in particular. Massaging seats, 2 bolt rear differential, front and/or rear camera cleaning when using the wipers. Those are just a few I’ve heard there may be more. I know 20’s are pretty sought after… if your issue free I’d be looking more at a 24 than a 23 or keeping it.

It still blows my mind why someone would want to jump ship from a 2020 thats trouble free, has every feature over one that's missing stuff, more expensive and same exact gen/style. If warranty is the reason, you can buy an extended warranty and it'll be cheaper than starting all over with less stuff.

After seeing the newer 2024 Explorer's, im keeping my 2020. It's also been 99% trouble free.

My company pays for my car ... with the rebates on the 2023 (5-6k) and initial pricing plus some equity in my 2020 it should be more or less around the same monthly cost. Yes my 2020 was relatively issue free outside of my cats being replaced but massaging seats and such don't really mean much to me personally to be honest. If getting the 2023 continues to be an issue then of course I'd be open to writing a check to buy the 2020 and extend the warranty through Ford and possibly waiting for the 2024 but like I said in my case getting new is a perk, I'm not jumping ship ... my lease is up on the 2020 in a month.

Latest update:

My dealer called me and told me they moved my eta UP one month. Originally had moved from 5/29 to 7/22 to mid-end September.
Just found out new eta is 8/18-8/24 !!!
Not holding my breath...but MAYBE they're making some headway??? Fingers and toes crossed.

Also, my car has been built since May, but been sitting in storage at the Chicago plant, probably at that same Speedway.
