ZFG: I guess I'm a fanboy now too

So I’ve been riding around with the 93 tune now for almost a week, and while I am still keeping my eyes open for some hard shifts, my ST is now an absolute beast (just like everyone else with a ZFG tune). The dragy should be here Monday (damn vendor lied about it arriving in two days then went with 7 day delivery it appears) and I can get some 0-60 times.

Such a blast to drive now - never had anything like it before.

For those on the fence - I would say hop off. I was worried the process would overwhelm my middle age tech skills, but the ZFG guide clearly explains everything and I honestly have had zero problems, thanks to it and the very helpful advice of the forum veterans.

Thanks again everyone!

Just got my baseline tune in last night. Wow is all I have to say. Even though it's only the 91 tune, I can't believe how much difference it makes!

Have to agree… I was running 5* tune for a while. It was decent but the shifts felt clunky. Especially just driving around town not going WOT. Saw unbroken’s post how the zfg tune shifts just snap right into place. And it couldn’t be more true. Really happy with it. I told Adam it’s a daily but race car and he nailed it.
I agree. I like the 5* e50 tune and 93. Not happy at all with 91. Clunky is a good term for shifting.

Anyone know how much is gained by adding the Whipple intercooler to the 93 zfg tune? sounds like the 93 tune is solid!

More than likely, next to nothing BUT it'll be running a lot more consistent so it'll feel faster since the power wont drop like it does currently due to heat soak.

It won’t “feel” faster…it will BE faster. It will make more power especially above ~60 mph where the oem IC becomes a hindrance.

I placed an order with ZFG last night for a Daily Driver Tune. Definitely looking forward to it!

I just got the ZFG 93 tune, in your opinion should I buy an exhaust or Whipple IC first? My play money is pretty limited at the moment so the second addition may have to wait. What choice offers the best gains?

without a doubt the Whipple IC. Anyone who says otherwise is a f&*%#ng idiot. I could go into detail here, but short reason is the stock IC heat soaks fast and simply can't cool fast enough. Also, the stock exhaust isn't that bad, aside from the rattling from the flex sections. My order of mods would be:

1A: Tune
1B: Intercooler
2: High Flow Cats

Big power mods after this would be e50 tune, upgraded fuel system, and turbos.

Intercooler and tune should be the first 2 mods…no doubt about it…followed by high flow downpipes. Exhaust is a crap-shoot. Nothing Borla makes will add any power. I’d do the Thermal R&D full 2.5” downpipe back kit or custom.

If given a choice again I would still get the Magnaflow exhaust #19515 over the Thermal as it has the mean looking black quad welded 4 inch extensions and also has a nice lower tone than the Borla. The drone in the 1800 to 2000 rpm can be easily controlled on the highway by putting the car in manual mode and leaving it in overdrive gear 8. If your driving 85 mph + then shift up to 9. If your deaf shift up to 10 as the drone won't matter. Manual mode works with cruise control so you can have it in 8th gear using cruise control with no issues. Driving around town you can leave it in the regular non-manual mode.

I can’t recommend an exhaust that you have to pick specific gears to drive in to eliminate the drone. I had super high hopes for the Magnaflow kit but the issues people have had kinda ruined it for me.

I have not asked Adam yet but would an addition of the Whipple necessitate another custom tune?

He can fine tune it after for sure. Not necessary but if you want “all of it” a datalog is free.

I have the Borla Atak catback and it didn't drone until I switched out the mid resonator and added a X-pipe.
Now it is noticeable but also much louder outside.
To each their own I guess.
Thats my 2 cents for what its worth :)

Yeah, I wouldn't think twice about owning an exhaust system that I had to "drive around" in order to be able to stand driving it. Just ain't happeinig. There has got to be a better option or, at least a better option for me.

agreed....I'll just keep waiting for my Thermal to ship. I prefer quiet-ish and no drone. Talked to them a few days ago, they said the tips are out to powder coat and should be back by end of next week (15 Oct), then shipping after that. I'll be happy if it's here before Christmas, but wouldn't complain if it showed up tomorrow somehow.
