Panoramic Vista Roof and 3.0 for Platinum are back!!
Interesting highlights for me
  • roof rail delete returns for ST, ST-line , Platinum and active
  • 3.0 Platnium returns
  • Opening sunroof returns
  • ST sinister package
  • Avalanche grey and ruby red paint added
  • Illuminated ford badge

One thing that stood out to me in the ordering guide, unless someone made a mistake.
Is that for 2027 they may be body paint matching the lower bodyside cladding that goes along the bottom of the SUV and around the wheels and such instead of that black plastic trim.
They removed it from the Black section in the Ordering Guide.
Again, it wasn't called out in the 2027 changes list, so it could be a mistake or perhaps not?

Also, the 2027 is gaining the Open On Approach Rear Liftgate instead of manually having to push the button.
From what I read it works when the driver is within 3 feet from the rear lifting door and as long as the ultrasonic sensors in the bumper don't sense that it is too close to a wall or another thing it can hit.

YouTube Video:
The 2026 Ford Explorer ST is a BETTER performance SUV than an Acura MDX Type S

Its like Ford watched this video, around 4:22 minutes in, a handful of stuff the reviewer complained about is changed for 2027.

The Sinister package seems way overpriced to me. As noted earlier in the discussion, the wheels are simply the Platinum Ultimate Package wheels painted black, so no new design, with the same tires the ST already comes with. The daytime running lights already have the amber color for turn signals, so just a programming thing on Ford's part (and probably doable in Forscan), and the badge is a very minor change that also should not cost Ford much if anything and could be done after purchase. I saw a video that shows that the base model Active has amber running lights as standard, so most likely changeable with Forscan. Basically you're paying for black wheels.

Agreed.

I can see the wheels adding a little cost. While they are the same wheels as the Plat, Ford probably incurs a small cost to make a limited batch of them in Black likely in smaller numbers, but would need to see Ford's accounting numbers to see how true this is. It's offset by the cost credit of the standard 21" wheels however. The Amber DRL's are likely a ForScan change, and the badges gotta be what? $50-75 tops? Profit maker for Ford right there as I can see that package being popular.

If the Active also has Amber DRLs, that sorta waters down the package IMHO as it's no longer a differentiating feature on some ST's.

But just my opinion.

Speaking of badges, can't wait to find out what the P/N is for them as I like the red badging, but would prefer the black surround vs chrome. IIRC, the 25+ ST badges are compatible with 20-24, but reversed? (Grill badge is liftgate and vice versa)

What's ironic about it is that the wheels and badges are probably cheaper to make for the Sinister Package as they would require less finishing work during manufacturing. The Platinum wheels have a mixture of paint and polished surfaces, while the Sinister wheels are painted all black. And the chrome on the badge needs to be added to the black plastic while they just eliminate that step on the Sinister badge. Definitely will be a money maker package for Ford.

Right, but I was thinking about it from the perspective of economy of scale. I'm in manufacturing, and a simpler process doesn't always equal cheaper.

But I can only speculate so you could be correct.
