Any ideas? It is all dry, so it happened sometime in the last week to 10 days, as I haven't been in the back.

Looks like it got wet with something. Does your rear ac still get cold and your heat work back there?

Has it rained lately in your area?

We had heavy rain on the weekends of the 21st and 28th. I wasn't able to find much other than a comment about a condenser coating. Nothing out of the other vents, just where the rear unit is.

We have had a lot of freezing weather the last 14 days too. To me it looks like hard water dried and left scale.

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe when it was raining it was dirty rain and when you opened the tailgate it got in?
