What grade of gas do you put in your ST?

91 or 93, which ever is available. But I try to use 93.

The base has closed and VP-17 was moved to Kaneohe MCAS hangers across the island. The H-1 still is the main highway, but Hawaii is the only state without a 65mph speed limit. Most highway speeds run from 45 to 50 mph only. There is a five mile 60 mph stretch only near the old base.. I would commute f33 miles each way from Hawaii Kai on the east side to Kapolei (by the old Barbers Pt base a lot and cruise at the higher speeds and get 25 mph with the ST. I had my two Shelby Mustangs out there for restoration but they are home now. The area is built up immensely since you left. Come back and visit sometime. Forget high speeds. The crack down on high speed runs in intense as we have lost too many late night rocket runners, especially two wheelers on the highways. It is better to cruise to enjoy the views and save our zooming for mainland visits.

Very profound what you are saying. In my former life, I was the 20 year old kid Aircrewman who had already been to Viet Nam, I was invincible, or at least I told myself I was. God was with us during those "after dinner" cruises down the H-1. Over 50 years later, I know, for a fact, your body does NOT heal quite as fast as it previously did. I also know what it's like to be a victim and get killed in a car accident; the recovery takes years and you never get back to 100% you. The rest of that conversation we'll save for a later day. I appreciate the offer to meet up on Oahu, that would be fun sometime.

In the Navy, this particular technique was referred to as having an "Oklahoma Credit Card". You never traveled anywhere without that 6' long piece of garden hose.

I keep a few bottles of octane boost in the back, just in case I have a brain lapse or am traveling somewhere that only has 91. With the ZFG 93 tune its kinda necessary.

Rislone Hy-per Fuel. I'm sure there are dozens that do the same

91 is the highest as that's all I can get in California unless there is some special station somewhere which I probably would not want to drive to anyway as it's most likely far away. Depending on price I try to use 91 but sometimes go down to 89 paying $5.10 or so a gallon is not all that much fun.

100% agree; out near the Sacramento freeway system, it is closer to $6.00 for 91 OCT

I went from a 2011 Ford Expedition (13 local 17 highway) to the 2025 Explorer. So far, I have only run 93 octane. It is still cheaper on gas than the Expedition, so no complaints. Also, in Georgia I am paying ~$3.60/gal to $3.80/gal for 93.

93 most of the time, I'll use 87 on long trips where it'll all be burned up on the highway. I can feel the difference between the two, with 87 there is a lag and less acceleration when punching it.

Yeah we in California get screwed on gas prices even though we have refineries in our state, its crazy! I wish we could get 93 and it was only $3.80 a gallon. Heck I wish any of our gas was only $3.80 a gallon LOL.

Mine is stock. I've thrown 89, 91 and 93 in it depending on where I am and what i'm doing. Highway driving i'll toss 89 in where i'm just using cruise control.

I notice zero difference on my butt-o-meter between them, but it's been some time since it's been calibrated.

I didn't notice a difference until I put all 91 in this last week, whereas before it was a bit mixed because I used 87 once and then filled up at half way and used 89, but this time I ran it down to under a quarter and put all 91 in it, and maybe it's because we are now using the summer stuff as opposed to the winter stuff with whatever it is they put in it (can't remember the name of the stuff) or maybe its even the hotter weather but I can say I do feel that it is running a bit smoother and idles a little bit better and quieter with the 91. So I don't know.

GomerPyleST: Agreed!! Before I came to California in 1971, I did NOT realize all of the differences in the gasoline here. You were referring to our "Winter Blends" and now to our "Summer Blends". Sacramento is a unique situation, you go East and you are immediately in the mountains, North or South and you see quite a bit of level land for miles to come. From Sacramento you can go 5 1/2 hours North before you see the Oregon Border or you can drive 10 1/2 hours to San Diego/Mexico to the South. Regardless, whichever direction of travel you will eventually end up crossing a serious mountain range here in California.

For those of you driving out for vacation, I would strongly recommend you check the terrain to determine the elevations. There is no way I would drive these performance based ST's on anything less than 91 Oct in the mountains with the steep climbs involved. When on the flat lands, I do alternate and use 89 Oct.
