I was looking for a new vehicle and when I read about the ST I thought I would try it out. Looked for one with the surround cams installed (first couple I found it was missing and the window sticker said ford gave $500 credit instead during shortages from the pandemic I guess). Found a 2022 and brought it home for a 24 hr test drive. Love the power. Love the all wheel drive. Dislike the implementation of the surround cams in the sync 3 but could live with it. love the interior. Love the wheels (but wish they were maybe 22’s instead of expensive 21’s).

But had a weird issue with the perimeter sensors where any time I turn hard left the sensors would show something was all up and down the left side of the suv. Red lights even in the middle of the vehicle so I would think not just a misaligned sensor picking up the front drivers tire. So took it back from the test drive to see if they could fix it. Still waiting to hear back about what ford says.

Reason for the post is now I am debating if getting a 2022 is best. Or if maybe another year would be better (due to changes ford made etc) including going to a 2025. Just figured I would ask and see some opinions. This 2022 is just outside bumper2bumper warranty due to time.

2022 is fine, a years are actually fine. If they can’t fix that problem then try to find another one.

My best advice is to do a lot of reading on this site. Lots of info on changes during the years. But don't get scared when you hear of problems. Those are actually the small minority. Rarely do you see people posting saying their vehicle is perfect and great, which is the majority, only when they have problems. That goes for any forum for any vehicle.

As for the 2025, probably comes down to how much you want to spend whether it is the option for you. The big changes on 2025 are the change form Sync 3 to the Google based system (which come with a larger screen), addition of available BlueCruise, front and rear styling updates, and interior redesign (primarily dash, console, and seats). They got rid of the mechanical switches for the climate and integrated them into the touchscreen. Also read Ford simplified the instrument cluster by eliminating the custom screens that changed with the drive mode and changing the layout a little. But midyear things were deleted including the power tilt steering, ST logo keyfobs, and rear side window shades.

As for the 2020 - 2024, best to stay away from very early 2020 builds due to quality issues from what I heard. Later 2020 models, like what I have, were fine. 2020 had the most features. After that they decontented a little every year. When the pandemic hit, some options were removed and credit given such are massage seats, rear climate controls, and cameras, but later added back on when parts became available. So you have to be careful when looking at the years around 2022. There were some minor interior dash trim changes in 2021 from chrome/gray to gloss black, otherwise the interior was the same from 2021 to 2024. Concerning the camera layout on the screen, there were two different center screens available. The base was a smaller, horizontal screen and optional with the upgraded stereo and massaging seats was a larger vertical screen. Some people say the horizontal screen has a better layout than the vertical screen, so that is something to consider when looking. The ST also had two different wheels available. Standard where 20" with a polished surface and black pockets, while optional were the 21" black with upsized red calipers in the Street Pack. Most people like the looks of the black wheel, while I seem to be in the minority and like the polished look better. Seems like most ST's had the Street Pack, but if you prefer 20", look for an ST without the Pack.

I've had my 2020 ST for a little less than a year and love the vehicle. It is a nice driving vehicle with lots of options. It is a higher mileage version, but very clean, and so far no major issues. Did have the rear glass replaced due to defroster grid delamination, which I read was a problem on some 2020 and 2021 models. Other than that, everything works as is should with hardly a squeak and no rattles.

Feel free to post with more questions.

Thank you both for the input. Talked to the selling dealer today by text and they said the st was still at the Lincoln dealer getting both recalls done (rear cam and diff bolt/bushing) as well as a perimeter sensor. Not sure one sensor will fix the strange behavior I saw but we will see.
I was offered a screaming deal on a 2021 Shelby super snake sport truck. 15-20k equity day one. But not sure I want another standard cab truck. But the 775hp would be fun for a while. We’ll see.
