Service Procedure

1. Connect a battery charger to the 12-volt battery.

NOTE: To prevent the battery saver mode from activating on the vehicle, make sure the negative cable of the charger is installed on a chassis or engine ground, and not the 12-volt battery negative terminal. Do not have the vehicle plugged into the high voltage battery charger during programming. This can cause incorrect module programming. Make sure only the 12-volt battery charger is installed.

2. Reprogram the WACM using the latest software level of the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS).

Dealer tech here, I tried to do this software update over a month ago when I saw this TSB and with the latest version of FDRS the WACM didn’t show that there was a software update available. I don’t know if Ford knows which way is up anymore

That doesn't surprise me anymore, everytime there is a TSB or SSM the dealer tells me they never heard of it and its not coming up when they run my VIN so they won't do it. Ford is brutal for this kind of communication to its dealer network.

There's definitely blame to go around. But there are a lot of issues- you can't just blame Ford.

One of the problems is that the warranty work doesn't pay as well. It's unfortunate, but dealers have to make money too. In my area, appointments are always 2-3 weeks out. And to be fair, Ford isn't the only car company that has been introducing a slew of new models with too many new features only to have the pandemic and supply chain issues bite them in the ass.

You also have a generation of younger people who are less interested in doing tech work. I was down for nearly three weeks to have a friggin' battery replaced! The service rep told me he could .use 30 more techs and said they're doing more warranty work than he's ever seen.

Log onto a VAG, Fiat/Chrysler, Porsche, BMW, etc. site and see they all have the same set of issues these days. Even Lexus is not immune.
