Thermostat replacement

I have a 2022 Ford Explorer ST. The thermostat needs to be replaced. I believe it is stuck open. Can I simply replace the thermostat or do I have to replace the entire thermostat housing assembly? The thermostat is sold separately at auto parts stores. If so, why do some experts say that you should replace the housing assembly and not try to only relace the thermostat.

Because some experts aren’t really experts. You can easily replace just the t-stat. You’ll lose just a bit of coolant, IMO not enough to worry about buying more coolant, just top off with distilled water.
