Sun Roof Fabric Issue

Hey gang. My first post here. Just got my st 2 weeks ago. Certified used car. Anyways, the fabric is hanging.
I'm bringing it in next week. I'll update with any info on the repair. It is covered by warranty. I don't see a reason for moonroof to be removed

Did they end up repairing your sunshade? Was it repaired under warranty and how long did it take them?

I found the clip that popped off. It seems like the clip pops off on one side making the fabric get stuck in the rail. This then binds pulling the other side still clipped out of the rail so it sags. Also, the roller mechanism doesn't roll it up for some reason could be because the front is binding putting tension on the roller. If I could figure out how to get the back to roll it up, I'd just get the roof tinted and would not need to deal with the sunshade.

According to what I’ve heard. They recommend not tinting moon roof further than factory. Supposedly, the heat in the layered glass will cause it explode/crack.

I keep my sunroof closed all the time. Only open the inner shade half way if it is cloudy and I want more light. Knowing the flip up fabric screen wind deflector can tear off at high speed I figured the roller shade may not last very long either if driving around with the sunroof open.

Morning all... In case anyone missed it, someone did a DIY repair on this. After reading the FB thread, and reading that others have had this happen again after repair, I think Im just going to live with it lol

You ought to call Ford (dealer) about it. I believe there is a tsb or ssm on it. Saw it a week ago when I had access.
See if your year falls into that timeframe. Couldn't hurt.
They should be able to look it up in their OASIS system.

Hey Ford Family,

I just got off the phone with The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, the encourage me to let everyone know to file a complaint with them online or on the phone:

This way, an investigation can be made and possibly a recall can be issued. This is a safety risk, because with the shade sagging, in my case, blocks your view of the rear. This is a design flaw that Ford should cover, and enough people filling a complaint will be better. 1 is good enough, however multiple complaints is better.

I have also complained about my ST's sagging sunroof fabric cover to Better Business Bureau and Ford basically gave a generic response that this is not a warranty issue so engaged no further! I also tried the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration but everyone gave me the runaround!!

With so many who are having exactly the same problem it seems worthy of a bit of collective pressure on Ford!! To be honest this is just one of multiple failings on my Explorer!! I am not going to buy another Ford made vehicle ever again... I have a long list of relatively small but ongoing quality issues (rearview camera that was finally repaired 2 years later under warranty, wingmirror memory settings that randomly change, display randomly not showing up all the map settings, front seat trim clips breaking after a year or so... I could carry on!)

Well, I have parted ways with my explorer... I had been in two minds as I was contemplating fixing the problems and I had purchased the fabric sunroof liner. I now have it and I no longer need it! If anyone wants to make a reasonable offer then let me know...

Today, I made a complaint with www.nhtsa.gov in regards to these issues. Paying $3,000 to $4,000 here in California is crazy for a safety issue. I was driving while it happened, so I made it a safety issue. If this gets approved, I will let you guys know so that the ones who paid get their money back.

I'm not paying for something that is a manufacturing issue.
