Hello,

Does anyone know if the subframe needs to come out to replace a rear diff pinion bearing?

If so any estimates on how many service hours?

Thanks

Did you get a pinion bearing replaced? What were your symptoms and your diagnosis? And did it fix the issue you were having? What type of labor (and costs) were involved in replacing the pinion bearing? I’m having some slight clunking/thudding noises on my on/off throttle from the rear end and a local shop couldn’t find a problem and claims my rear differential is in good shape. But I’m willing to bet it’s a bad/worn pinion bearing and I’m fearful of what I’m going to have to go through to replace them. (Figured I’d just replace them all while they’re up there).

Any info/insight is greatly appreciated.

Basically, making a grinding noise, almost like a hung-up brake caliper, or worn-out pads. Anyway, ended up with a whole new rearend as continued driving ended up damaging the ring and pinion gear. Of course, you can't buy just the gears, and Ford requires you to buy the whole pumpkin for the rear rend! 3600 bucks and it's now under a new 2 yr warranty for the rear. Sucks but, what can you do?? Ford ended up reimbursing me 1400.00 after litigation threat.
