I can't tell you how many times people around me on the freeway SLOW down around me.

I guess having a black Explorer ST makes people think I am a cop...I have even had cops wave at me as if I was in the brotherhood...

Anyone else have this experience?

Yea I get it pretty often but, I'm also active LE and have FOP plates so ill informed people think I'm unmarked. I'm alright with people driving more cautiously however it can be dangerous for us ST owners and unhelpful for people who may need help thinking they're seeing a cop and would try to flag you down for assistance. I had a older man flag me the other week asking to help change a tire, I obliged and while I was helping the man I informed him on what to look out for (marked/unmarked). Some members and non members of this form, like the looks of the explorer just for that reason and others like myself love the performance styling and being a family hauler. But unfortunately we have some bad actors out there that will make us all look bad.

Was funny the first few times but it gets old. Mine is carbonized grey, and the MA state police units use the similar brown/gray shade for their unmarked units. The color looks the same with the black grill, that's about it. Nothing else on my vehicle looks like a PIU. I had a Taurus SHO before and it was the same thing back when Taurus police vehicles were common.

I will admit, before I got into Explorers a year or two ago, even I had trouble telling the PIU's apart from the civilian models. But even now, i know there are "street appearance" packages for PIU's to make them look like an XLT, and have seen ST's in police use, so I still play it safe and assume any explorer I see may be police.

Yeah I get that reaction quite a bit, especially when I slow down and get behind someone.

Mine is Rapid Red and dumb people almost daily slow down when I get behind them in the fast lane or change over to the right lane! Morons! If it were black, silver, gray or white I could understand.
