Extended Warranty!

As a new ST owner, I'd like to get some advice on extended warranties. We typically keep our cars for a long time (>10 years), so when we went to the Ford dealer to buy our ST back in October, I actually asked for an extended warranty, and what options they have. We ended up with a policy for 84 months / 75k miles, at $4,470. However when we came home, I discovered that they sold us a 3rd party warranty, from MPP. I didn't want this, I was looking for one from Ford. It had never occurred to me that I would get anything other than a Ford warranty from a Ford dealer, so I didn't pay attention to that. Anyway, that MPP warranty had a cancellation clause, so we cancelled it, and I got a full refund.

But now I'd still like to look for that extended warranty. How is the take on this from our members here? Does it make sense to go with an extended warranty? If so, am I right to prefer one from Ford over a 3rd party? I just figure the claims process should be easier this way. Finally, any advice on how to get such warranty? I'm in California, and somehow they are not sold online here. So I guess I will need to contact Ford dealers, probably multiple to make sure I'm don't get overcharged. If you have bought such warranty, what does it usually cost?

Definitely would recommend getting a warranty especially if you plan to keep the car that long. Unfortunately since your in Cali, you can’t buy a warranty from Flood or Granger Ford, but you can go on to their website and at least see what prices they charge for reference with your local dealers.

Thank you, good idea! I got the prices at the Granger website, and took a screenshot. This will help when I go to a dealer.

California doesn’t allow you to buy an ESP from a dealer not from California.
I love that CA has no other major issues of concern and can spend time on critical items like this. Hell, after 35 years, I may even move back there. :p
